Deborah L. Love

Our family and community lost a pillar on Monday, February 15, 2021 when Deborah L. Love (favorably known as Debie) passed away after a long fight with cancer.

Debie was born Sept 18, 1954 in Eldorado, IL to Philip Hughey and Dorthy Hughey (Gill). She went on to become an RN at St. Johns Hospital for 18 years. She then moved on to become the nurse for the PORTA School District for 15 years. She loved her part in the community, including coaching the junior bowling league in Petersburg for over ten years, and later coaching the high school Pom-Pom squad for 10 years. Debie enjoyed reading, being with her family, traveling through the mountains, and playing all the games with her grandchildren.
Debie is predeceased by her parents, her brother Ambrose (Bob) Hughey, and her brother Stephen Hughey.
Debie is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, David Love, her son Jonathan (Rebecca) Love of Laurel MT, her daughter Sarah Love-Martin (Steve Martin) of Belleville IL, her son Jordan (Dustine) Love of Athens IL, her sister Phyllis Hargis, her sister Natasha Lynn (David) Lies, her sister Karen (Richard) Friesen, and her grandchildren Addison Love, Kara Love, Jackson Martin, Kurdtis Howard, and Josie Love. Debie will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Wintston Churchill once said "
We make a living by what we get;
we make a life by what we give"
and it's what we will all remember about Debie. Through her wisdom, her humor, and her kindness, she gave everything she could to those she loved.
The family will be hosting a Remembrance Open House on Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Athens Community Park Banquet Hall, 210 Dottie Bednarko Dr., Athens, Illinois 62613. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com

Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
