Virgil L. Shumaker, 96, of Lewistown, passed away at 1:28 PM Monday June 8, 2020 at Sunset Manor in Canton.
He was born January 8, 1924 at Youngstown, IL; the son of Charles A. and Ruth (Thurman) Shumaker. He married Irene Robertson on March 24, 1946 at Abingdon. She died March 2, 1969. He later married Nina Fernetti on December 16, 1973 at Bryant. She survives along with five children, Charlie (Becky) Shumaker of Lewistown, Jeff (Janie) Shumaker of Lewistown, Laura (Randie) Beaird of Glendale, AZ; Billie Furgerson of Canton, and Roxanne (Marvin) Yocum of Canton, a son in-law, Gene Weaver of Lewistown, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Linda Weaver, and three brothers.
Virgil was a farmer and retired from FS. He was a WW 2 Army veteran, and a member of the Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. He was also a member of the Bryant Christian Church, and the Fulton County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
A private family graveside service will be held Friday at Wiley Cemetery at rural Ellisville with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Lewistown American Legion Post 1, or any charity of the donor’s choice.
