Gwendolyn White, 97, of Lewistown died June 9, 2020. She was born June 6, 1923 in Canton, IL, the daughter of Prentiss E. and Marguerite (Blythe) Graham. She married D. Harrison White June 16, 1946 at Isabel Church in rural Fulton County. Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her parents and husband; she is survived by two sons, Michael White, of Lewistown and Tempe, AZ, and Patrick White, of Lewistown, and by four of her cousins: Harold Camp, Nancy (Russell) Mapston, Kathryn Hulbert, and Jack (Nancy) Curtis.
Gwendolyn graduated from Lewistown High School and from Culver Stockton College, in Canton, MO. She also pursued graduate studies in English at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. She taught high-school English in the Barry, Lewistown, Astoria, and Canton, IL school districts. After retiring from teaching, she worked in food services at Mason District Hospital and at several area supermarkets, as well as becoming a registered EMT. She also was quite active in the family farming operation. Gwendolyn was a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown. Throughout her life, she wrote many poems and short stories, some of which were published.
Gwen and her family much appreciated the care Tia, Jenna, and April gave her during the last several years she was able to remain in her home.
