Canton – William C. “’Bill” Beaird, 94, of Canton, passed away at 9:55 PM on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Graham Hospital. He was born on February 24, 1926 in Bernadotte Township to Grover and Lena (Munson) Beaird. He married Evelyn I. Thompson on August 21, 1949 in Bushnell, IL. She preceded him in death on October 17, 2018.
Bill was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Willis, Doyle, Grover “Zeke”, and Duane Beaird, and seven sisters, Charlotte Beaird, Bertha Vaughn, Goldie Parks, Wilma Hyde, Audrey Pickel, Twila Simpson, and Doris Ellis.
Surviving are three children, William L. (Ralynn) Beaird of Bartonville, IL, Daniel A. (Geralyn) Beaird of Canton, IL, and Sandra “Sue” (Alan) Beuster of Granite City, IL; five grandchildren, Eric (Kelly) Beaird, Andrew (Malia) Beuster, Emily (Brent) Dean, Laura (Justin) Howard, and Nathan (Emily) Beuster; and five great-grandchildren, Aimee, Taylor, Ethan, Evelyn, and Aiden.
Bill retired as a millwright after 30 years at Caterpillar and also farmed. He served on the Canton Ag Council and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Bill also was an avid gardener.
Bill served in the United States Navy in World War II as a Seaman 2nd Class.
Due to COVID-19, private graveside services will be held at Howard Cemetery in rural Smithfield, IL. Pastor Alan Beuster will officiate. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Red Brick School in Smithfield, IL or the Greater Peoria Honor Flight. Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
