Maquon – George “Artie” Arthur Kirgan, 68, of Maquon, passed away at 6:34 AM on Monday, April 20, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 11, 1951 in Macomb, IL to Arthur and Leona (Brooks) Kirgan Jr. He married Denise Evans on November 5, 1994 in Knoxville, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Chad (Kristy) Kirgan of Knoxville, IL, Sarah (Brent) Freeman of Canton, IL, and Troy (Rebecca) Kirgan of Knoxville, IL; six grandchildren, Tyler Kirgan, Jordan Fuller, Matt Kirgan, Jillyen Kirgan, Elisabeth Freeman, and Trenton Kirgan; one sister, Sandra (John) Reed of Knoxville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Shane Kirgan; and one sister
Artie worked 27 years for Aluminum Castings, as a plant superintendent, and later working for FCA manufacturing as superintendent at Mossville Plant. He was a farmer, and the owner of Wishing Star Farms Trucking Company. He was an active member of children’s program at Four Square Church. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburg Steelers fan. Artie was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed boating and camping at the Mississippi River. He coached youth baseball, basketball, football coaching his own children and grandchildren over the years. He was a devoted family man, and was proud of his children and grandchildren. Artie never met a stranger and had many, many friends, and you could always find Artie with his 68’ Chevy Camaro SS.
Per Artie’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton. A celebration of life and burial of ashes at Wiley Cemetery will be held at a later date.
