Melba Jean DeRenzy
Canton-Melba “Jean” DeRenzy, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Red Oak Estates in Canton.
She was born on July 18, 1930 in Canton to Leo and Etta (Hinderliter) Mahr. They preceded her in death.
She married Robert “Slick” DeRenzy on December 3, 1950 in Canton. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Daniel (Jean) DeRenzy of Canton, Donald (Sember) DeRenzy of Canton, two grandsons, Drew (LaKendra) DeRenzy, Tyler DeRenzy, her nieces and nephews and three great grandchildren, Charlee DeRenzy of Canton, Memphis Sue Wilson of Canton and Blaize Allen Wilson of Canton.
Also preceding her in death is a sister, Wilda Newton and three brothers, Lyndall Mahr, Eldred Mahr and Harold Beaird.
Jean worked in the office at JJ Newberry Company for 10 years. Together with her husband they owned and operated Bob’s Towing Service for 38 years where she was the bookkeeper and helped take care of service calls.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, the “Joy” Sunday School Class and secretary of the Suzanne Powers Circle. She was a 50 year member of Order of the Eastern Star #413 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1984.
She was an excellent seamstress making all of her dress clothes. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, dancing, singing and all kinds of crafts.
Private graveside services will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton has been entrusted with services.
Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church Food Pantry.
