Canton – Gilbert R. Marshall, 71, of Canton, passed away at 1:36 PM on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at his residence. He was born on May 31, 1947 in Canton, IL to George W. and Irene M. (Meyer) Marshall. He married Lenda Wik on September 26, 1987 in Washington, IL, she survives.
Also surviving are five children, Russell (Jodi) Marshall of Geneseo, Keith Marshall of Mackinaw, Ryan (April) Marshall of Bettendorf, IA, Tracey D. (Deanna) Marshall of Geneseo, and Emily (Drew) Marshall-Frey of Manhattan, KS; eight grandchildren, Mia, Keri, Riley, Lucy, Sophie, Ryder, Clifton, and Annaliese; and one sister, Cora Murphy.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bernard Marshall.
Gilbert worked as a farmer for all his life and also worked as a maintenance welder for Caterpillar where he retired in 1996. Majority of his life he lived on the family farm. He was a member of the FFA, a 4 H leader, an avid outdoorsman, and collected IH tractors. Gilbert loved working on his pond, gardening, camping, and most important of all he loved being a grandpa.
Services will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a visitation will be from 9-10 AM. Pastor Micah Garnett will officiate. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. A visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
