Paul Albert McMaster


Paul Albert McMaster, 84, of Farmington, passed away at 6:45 AM on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Sunset Manor in Canton. He was born on July 20, 1934 in Trivoli, IL to Albert and Frieda (Walters) McMaster. He married Gloria Ryer on October 24, 1954 in Farmington, IL, she preceded him in death on February 21, 2005.

Paul was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lucille Foster.

Surviving are two children, Paula (Gerald) Fraley of Trivoli and Kenny McMaster of Farmington; three grandchildren, Jon (Kelsey) Fraley, Judson Fraley, and Morgan McMaster; and one great-grandchild, Henry Fraley.

Paul worked as a farmer and also at Peoria County FS in Hanna City. He enjoyed fishing, farming, and his cattle.

Robert “Bobby” Allen Miller


Canton – Robert “Bobby” Allen Miller, 66, of Canton, passed away at 4:02 AM on Thursday, August 30, 2018 surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born on August 29, 1952 in Canton, IL to Hirschle and Catherine (Wood) Miller. He married Becky Rader on October 28, 1972 in Canton, IL, she survives.

Also surviving are three children, Shaun (Melissa) Miller, Corey (Jennifer) Miller, and Catherine (Wes) Calvert, all of Canton; eight grandchildren, Dalton Miller, Luke Miller, Jocee Miller, Jake Miller, Wyatt Calvert, Marlee Miller, Briggs Calvert, and Sam Calvert; one brother, Larry (Debbie) Miller of Canton; and one sister, Nancy (Wayne) Reed of Farmington.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents.

Bobby worked for the City of Canton Public Works for 22 years and also International Harvester for 11 ½ years. Bobby loved being around his family and friends. He enjoyed Chicago sports and the great outdoors. Bobby was a lover of life.

Private service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Rev. Brant Reed will officiate. Evelyn Marie Lenzi


Farmington – Evelyn Marie Lenzi, 87, of Farmington, passed away at 6:30 AM on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Sunset Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 2, 1931 in Farmington to Frank and Kathryn (Vlahovich) Ridley. She married James Lenzi on July 30, 1949 in Farmington, he preceded her in death on July 14, 2013.

Also preceding her in death were her parents.

Surviving are two children, David (Nancy) Lenzi of Rolla, MO, and Jan (Don) Megan of Eureka, IL; three grandchildren, Stacey (Brad) Smyth of MO, Kim Lenzi of MO, and Michelle (Dan) Blake of GA; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Judy Allen of East Peoria and Barb Leona of AR.

Evelyn retired from Caterpillar. She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Farmington and also a member of Canton Country Club. Evelyn loved sewing, crocheting, knitting, reading, baking, and ballroom dancing.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Farmington, IL. Father Daniel Ebker will officiate. Richard “Rick” Seward


Canton- Richard “Rick” Seward, 65, of Canton, passed away Wednesday August 29, 2018, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
He was born on April 17, 1953 in Canton, to Norman Seward and Jessie Ball. They preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, William “Joey” Joseph Seward and Wendy Jo (Lonnie) Drontle, both of Minnesota, five sisters, Vicki (George) Spahn, of Brereton, Lisa (Terry Cox) Pace, of Brereton, Debbie (Roger) Kruzan, of Liverpool, Tonja (Tim) Barstain, of Liverpool and Nancy (Jackie) Clark, of St. David, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and niece’s and nephew’s, his companion, Terri Ladd and her children whom he loved, Nathan Scalf, Kim Youngblood, T.J. Siglar, Jason Siglar and Angie Duretto.
Richard was a welder and he worked on the riverboats, he enjoyed working in his garden, fishing, smoking meats and tinkering in his garage. He never met a person he did not like and called everyone his friend, he was loved by all that knew him.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services.
Per his wishes memorials may be made out to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Vonee Davis


Lewistown- Vonee Davis, 89, of Lewistown passed away at 2:37 AM Tuesday August 28, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born December 25, 1928 at Ipava the daughter of Walter and Gladys (Ebbert) Kinnamon. She married Jack Davis on August 17, 1947 at Ipava. He died December 25, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Cynthia Davis, and her brother Gerald Kinnamon. Surviving are one son, Jack Davis, one daughter Lynn Barrineau and one granddaughter, Emily Barrineau all of Lewistown.

Vonee was a homemaker and worked as a legal secretary for 25 years at the Fulton County States Attorney’s Office. She was a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church. Vonee was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She loved to cook.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Pastor Brant Reed officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is assisting the family with arrangements. Curtis A. Overcash


Ottawa – Curtis A. Overcash, 66, formerly of Canton and Dixon, passed away Sunday August 26, 2018 at his home in Ottawa.

He was born on April 15, 1952, in Canton, to George W. and RosaLee (Harris) Overcash.

Surviving are his mother, two children, Camille M. Overcash, of Bloomington Illinois, Cameron W. Overcash, of Des Moines Iowa, one brother Larry (Susan) Overcash, of East Peoria, five sisters, Terry (John) Lowe, of Farmington, Gloria (John) Davis, of Canton, Brenda (John) Baylor, of Cuba, Laura (Richard) Sharpshair, of Canton, Karla Hulvey, of Canton and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, George.

Curtis graduated from Farmington High School in 1970.  He then graduated from Spoon River College in 1972 and later from the University of Illinois in Agriculture Education and was a member of the Farm House Fraternity.  He began his career as an agriculture teacher at Princeville High School.  He started as a salesman for FS, and grew within the company through multiple transitions, reaching the level of Credit Manager.

Together with Greg Deakin he founded a national purebred sheep magazine called “The Suffolk Banner” in 1978.  He was a graduate of the Kenneth Gregg School of Auctioneering in Texas.  He was an active partner and auctioneer for Heartland Livestock Services at purebred sheep auctions throughout the country.  He retired from GRAINCO FS Inc. in January of 2018 to a full time job of farming and auctioneering.

Curtis was baptized in the Fairview Reformed Church and was a faithful Christian.

Throughout his life, Curt remained faithful to his agricultural roots.  He enjoyed participation in 4-H, FFA, charity auctions including the Friendship Festival livestock auctions, and he was a longtime MC at the Fulton County Fair.  He will be remembered for his engaging personality, his keen sense of humor and his rolling chuckle that lit up the room.  He felt blessed and honored to farm alongside his dad, but most of all Curt cherished his children.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 11 am at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Foster Cemetery in rural Fairview.

Memorials may be made to the University of Illinois Farm House Fraternity Foundation or Farmington High School FFA.

Robert D. "Bob" Kessler


Robert D. "Bob" Kessler, age 66 of Lewistown, IL, passed away at 9:22 am Saturday, August 25, 2018 at his home. He was born on April 24, 1952 in Canton, IL, the son of Clinton E. and Ferne E. (McMullen) Kessler. Robert married Gloria Fuqua in 1970. She preceded him in death. On August 27, 2011, Robert married Kristine Kays Large at Camp Emmanuel, South of Astoria, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Kelly (and Matthew) Sommers of Atlanta, GA, step-daughter Lori (and Mike) Oldenettel of Jacksonville, IL, step-son David (and Rochelle) Large of Jacksonville, IL, three grandchildren; Landon, Raegan, and Maddox Sommers, five step-grandchildren Nash, Kellon, and Beckham Oldenettel, and Brandon and Lynden Large, two step-great-grandchildren, Eli and Rosalie Large, and his sister, Sharon Cameron of Astoria, IL.

Robert was preceded in death by one son, Damon Kessler, one grandson Parker Oldenettel, one brother, Clinton “Jackie” Kessler, Jr., and his parents.

He was a member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria. He was a good Christian man who put his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was a constant witness for Him.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He also was an over the road truck driver and an excellent mechanic.

He was a member of the Army reserves.

Robert loved collecting antique tractors, working to restore them. His hobby was his work and giving unto others. He loved his family, spending as much time as he could with them.

Services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lewistown Church of the Nazarene. Pastors Randy Munson, Stanley Stambaugh, and Barbara Sawyer will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30th from 4-7 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Interment will be in the Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville, Illinois. Robert W. Untz


Hanna City – Robert W. Untz, 89, of Hanna City, passed away at 9:20 PM on Friday, August 24, 2018 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on November 10, 1928 in West Brooklyn, IL to George and Helen (Gehant) Untz. He married Pauline Morse on July 10, 1948 in Canton, IL, they were married for 69 years. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2017.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Robert “Bob” “Dennie” Untz; one great-grandchild, Hayden Kowal; four brothers, George Jr, Albert John, Leo, and Norman Lee Untz; two sisters, Dorothy Jeanblanc, and Bernice Oliver.

Surviving is one son; Paul (Helen) Untz of Elmwood; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Untz of Fort Madison, IA; three grandchildren, Nicole (Steve) Dixon of Fort Madison, IA, Helena (Matt) Kowal of Peoria, and Robert J. Untz of Cibolo, TX; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was hired as an engineer at CAT in 1950 where he retired in December 1990 after 40 years of service. He was an inventor of 15 U.S. Patents assigned to CAT. He was a member of Hanna City United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. Robert was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He also took tender care of his precious wife for many years. He was devoted to his kids and grandkids.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Rev. Jeremy Lafary will officiate. Betty J. Winston


Betty J. Winston, 87, of Rushville, IL, passed away at 4:47 pm on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at her home. She was born on May 7, 1931 in Browning, IL, the daughter of Frank and Isla (Lane) Weishaar. Betty married Jack Winston on April 21, 1951 in Beardstown, IL. He survives.

Also surviving are her 2 daughters, Nancy Winston of Rushville and Christy (and John) Chubick of Bloomington, IL, 3 grandchildren, Shelly Toland, Jennifer (and Dave) Ziemer, and Kayla (and Josh) Smith, 4 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Olivia, Coralynn, and Calvin, 2 brothers, Jim Weishaar of Rushville and Alfred (and Fanny) Weishaar of Beardstown, and 1 sister, Peggy Stambaugh of Browning.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Wanda Mae Weishaar.

Betty was a homemaker. She enjoyed flower gardening, going to the movies, reading, and listening to music, especially Lawrence Welk.

Services will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Pastor Charla Meyers will be officiating. Genny Lingenfelter


Genny Lingenfelter, 83, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at her residence.
She was born on July 9, 1935, in Canton to Otis and Thelma (Dick) McNeil. They preceded her in death.
She married James Lingenfelter on July 7, 1952 in Missouri. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Yolanda Pennock of Peoria, Clifton Lingenfelter of Peoria, Alina Lingenfelter of Pekin, two sisters, Sandra (Bill) Culvert of Washington, Anita Miller of Peoria, three grandchildren, James (Charlie) Lingenfelter, Katrina Pennock and Andrew Pennock and four great grandchildren, Billy, Donavan, Alex and Zach.
Also preceding her in death is one brother Marvin McNeil and one sister Romona Boudreaux.
Genny spent her time working around the farm, gardening, canning, sewing and driving the tractors. She also enjoyed working on her computer, square dancing and backpacking.
Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her "people".
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton from 5-7 pm.

Gary G. Whitman


Lewistown- Gary G. Whitman, 64, of rural Lewistown, passed away at 8:29 AM Monday August 20, 2018 at Graham Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born June 17, 1954 at Canton, the son of Harold Leslie and Marilie (Guilliams) Whitman. He married Sandra Ulrich on May 11, 1974 at Peoria. She survives along with his mother, Mary Whitman of rural Lewistown, one son, Jeremy (Toni) Whitman of Metamora, one daughter, Amy Whitman of Peoria, three grandchildren, Kenzie, Jace, and Nash, two brothers, Larry (Tyrrell) Whitman of Lewistown, and Randy (Carla) Whitman of Peoria, one sister-in-law, Judy Whitman of Canton, his mother-in-law, Josephine Ulrich of Peoria, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, one son, Matthew Whitman, and one brother, Clyde “Bill” Whitman.

Gary retired from the Fulton County Highway Department. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lewistown. He was a supporter of St Jude and the Cancer Society, and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and ice cream, but most of all, he enjoyed spoiling and being with his grandchildren. Gary was a do it yourself repair man who always said he could fix anything except the crack of dawn and a broken heart. He was affectionately known for his kind heart, impeccable sense of humor, quick wit, and famous one-liners. Gary didn’t know a stranger and was loved by everyone that knew him.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, where visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 PM. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Canton – Michael Lester Price Sr., 58, of Canton, passed away at 4:36 AM on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria, IL. He was born on July 15, 1960 in Alton,IL to Ray and Irene (Dunham) Anderson.

He is survived by his first wife, Iona Burketta, together they have 4 children; Kristina (Ben) Earnst-Halfaday, Russell (Angie) Earnst, Michael (Jessica) Price Jr., and Steven Price; Jacqueline Hammond, together they have 3 children, Tucker Hammond, Ian Price, and Melea Price; eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Autumn, Jesse, Cerenity, Dillon, Lily, Christian, Seth, Ali, Mikala, and Caden; four great-grandchildren, Zoey, Jakob, Aiden, and Mesly; three brothers, Kenny (Vicki) Hendricks, Elmer (Rhonda) Price, and Charles Cresswell; three sisters, Donna (Ron) Wheeler, Grace (Mike) Beiermann, and Sheila Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Michael was a supervisor for SC2 Inc. in Bartonville. He loved his family, friends, and enjoyed music.

Gerald M. Nell


Fairview – Gerald M. Nell (Jerry) passed away at his home on Sunday, August 19th, 2018 with his family beside him. He was born on January 9th, 1935 to Robert and Mabel (Barrett) Nell in Schuyler County, Illinois. He married Imogene Reeder on July 26th, 1958 in Rushville, IL. She survives. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Nell.

He is survived by one brother, John and Barbara (Corrie) Nell; four children, Gary Nell of Des Moines, IA, Brian and Joanne (Marinich) Nell of Fairview, IL, Debra (Nell) and Doug Wenger of Fairview, IL, and Steve and Julie (Johnson) Nell of London Mills, IL; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Jessica (Markley) Nell, Jessica (Nell) and Caleb Bugos, Wesley and Cody Wenger; two great-granddaughters, Peyton and Ella Bugos; and step-grandson Luke Stuckey.

Jerry was a member of the United States Army National Guard.

He worked for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL, Rinehart Plumbing & Heating in Rushville, IL, Bower Roller Bearing in Macomb, IL. Jerry retired from Midstate Coal Company in Rapatee, IL. He was a member of the Fairview Masonic Lodge until it’s disbandment. After retirement he enjoyed doing carpentry work, woodworking, gardening, and anything outside including hunting and fishing. He truly loved his wife and family.

Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018 at 5:00 PM at the Fairview American Legion 275 Pumyea St, Fairview, IL 61432. Kathy Marshall


Kathy Marshall died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO after fighting a short, yet incredibly brave battle with cancer.

Kathy was born to Robert M. and Martha Ann Marshall on July 19, 1957 and was raised on a farm outside of Ipava, IL. She was a 1975 graduate of VIT High School in Table Grove, IL and later graduated from Graham School of Nursing in Canton, IL in 1978. Kathy served as a registered nurse for 40 years. She began her career in Des Moines, IA and later moved to El Paso, TX to work near her mother’s family for 18 years. Kathy then transitioned to St. Louis, MO in 1997 so she could be closer to her immediate family. She worked at Des Peres Hospital for the last 21 years and enjoyed the relationships she developed with her beloved colleagues. During her career, Kathy contributed to a range of operating room services, specializing in open-heart, orthopedic, and neurological surgery. She eventually managed inventory and surgical supplies as well as trained new surgical nurses.

Family was always a priority for Kathy. She loved spoiling her dear nieces and nephews and she always took great interest in the health needs of her family. Kathy was an animal lover, an avid fan of Bette Davis movies, and enjoyed the talents of Barbara Streisand. She was an amazing cook and loved to bake for her family and friends. Kathy had a beautiful soul. Her kindness and generosity toward others was one of her many gifts and are attributes we would strive to live up to.

Kathy is survived by her mother Martha Marshall Sloan of Bushnell, IL, sister Karen (Albert) Bussone of Normal, IL, brother Robert K. (Heather) Marshall of Vermont, IL, sister Beverly Marshall of Streamwood, IL, brother Philip Marshall of Oshkosh, WI, niece Amanda (Michael) Lorentz of Springfield, IL, niece Sarah (Tristan) Estep of Cerro Gordo, IL, nephew Joseph Marshall of Macomb, IL, and nephew Peter Bussone of Normal, IL.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert M. Marshall in 2014.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL with funeral services starting at 4 pm. Elizabeth C. Welch


Lewistown- Elizabeth C. Welch, 102, of rural Lewistown passed away peacefully at Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center in Cuba, Illinois on Sunday, August 19, 2018.

She was born August 11, 1916 to Elza and Eula (Pratt) Chipman in rural Lewistown. She graduated from Lewistown Community High School in 1934 and worked at Caterpillar in Peoria as an office assistant until she married Fay Welch on February 11, 1939. They lived and worked in Peoria until 1949 when they moved back to Lewistown to farm full time. She was a homemaker and dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fay February 3, 2006, one son, Donald Welch, and brothers Chester Chipman and Ray Chipman.  Surviving are two children, Marie (Stephen) Wickert and Barbara Welch of Lewistown, two grandchildren, Brian (Cara) Wickert and Michelle (Mike) Barclay of Lewistown, and five great grandchildren, Ashley Barclay, Kody Wickert, Katelyn Wickert, Kolston Wickert and Kinslee Wickert of Lewistown.

She attended First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown, and was a member of Fulton Co. Farm Bureau and past member of the Senior Women’s Club and the Lewistown High School Alumni Association.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday August 22nd at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. John W. Bucy


John W. Bucy, age 88 of Astoria, IL, passed away at 3:55 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on March 3, 1930 in Vermont, IL, the son of John and Erma (Horner) Bucy. He married Dorothy Ann "Dot" Schisler on November 20, 1955 in Astoria. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2000.

John was also preceded in death by his grandson Mark Bucy, his step-grandson Mike Belden, step-great-grandson Cole Posey, 2 daughter-in-laws, Pam Bucy and Lynn Bucy, sister Mary June McCormick, six brothers; Otis, Wayne, Ansel, Henry, Clair, and George Bucy, three half-sisters, Dorothy Hughes, Vera Brillhart, and Lela Mendonhall, and three half-brothers, Boyd, Ernest, and Charles Bucy.

He is survived by two sons, Steven Bucy of Table Grove, IL and John Lance Bucy of Astoria, four grandchildren; Ashley Bucy, Bradi (and Monte) Chipman, Amber Bucy, and Jordan Kinkead, his step-grandson Matt (and Erin) Posey, six great-grandchildren; Riley Lynn Weinmann, Kaylynn Bucy, Levi, Evan, and Addison Chipman, and JJ Kinkead, two step-great-grandchildren, Nik Belden and Christin Posey, his brother Eldon (and Bertha) Bucy of Vermont, and his sister Betty Ricketts of Chandler, AZ.

John first worked at Ken-Ray Foundry in Vermont. He then went to work for International Harvester in Canton, IL and NAVISTAR in Indianapolis, IN, retiring June 30, 1999.

He was a member of the Army National Guard.

He was a member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25 and the Astoria United Methodist Church. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

He enjoyed flower gardening, mushrooming, fishing, dancing, and in his younger days, playing sports.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 25th at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Reverend Robert Greene will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24th from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Astoria Toys for Tots in care of the Astoria Fire Department.

Canton – Rosemary Yocum, 90, of Canton, passed away at 2:28 AM on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Graham Hospital. She was born on February 14, 1928 in Lewistown to Kyle J. and Madeline (Parkinson) Cook. She married Robert L. Yocum on August 14, 1945 in Lewistown, IL, he preceded her in death on March 6, 2003.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and infant son.

Surviving are four children, Larry (Jowana) Yocum of Canton, Ronald Yocum of Canton, Brenda (John) Horton of Canton, and Melody (Ronald) Harris of Canton; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Yocum, Chantel Goforth, Kim Brinson, Chad Yocum, Renee Stockov, Tracy Delost, John Horton, Robert Horton, Amy Plunk, Preston Harris, and Courtney Poremba; 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Morris (Mary Ellen) Cook of Lewistown.

Rosemary worked at the Department of Children and Family Services for 15 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Canton.

Melanie Gale Rhinberger


Melanie Gale Rhinberger, age 62 of Summum, IL, passed away at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2018 at her home. She was born on July 13, 1956 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of William and Gale (Hendricks) Marlow. She married Roylee Rhinberger on June 18, 1976 in Knox County and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage together. He survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Amy (and James) Knous of Beardstown, IL, two sons, Robert Rhinberger of Anderson Lake, IL and Noah Rhinberger at home, four granddaughters, Emma "Emily" Rhinberger of Marietta, IL, Allie "Jo Jo" Rhinberger of Richmond, KY, Taylor Knous of Rushville, IL, and Lauren Knous of Beardstown, IL, her fur babies, her sister Vicky (and Tony) McCombs of Rushville, IL, and two brothers, Rick Marlow of Sapula, OK and Jack Marlow.

Melanie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William Marlow.

She was a secretary for H and R Block in Rushville for the last 4 years. She also had worked at Stevens Publishing in Astoria as a sorter. The last 6 years she was in the sales department for R and M Paracord.

Melanie was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lewistown, IL.

She held many positions with the Boy Scouts and currently was the Merit Badge Counselor for Troop #132.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 20th at the Summum Cemetery at 5:00 p.m. Pastor Ron Jansen will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Melanie Rhinberger Memorial Fund.

Sue L. Fisk


Sue L. Fisk, age 83 of Rolla, MO, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 10:20 am on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. She was born on November 6, 1934 in Pleasanton, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer Clell and Renetta Beatrice (Jones) Price. On July 29, 1950, Sue married Donald L. Fisk in Palmyra, MO. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Vickie Sue (and Charles) Lentz of Venice, FL and Connie Sue Fisk at home in Rolla, four sons; Donald Warren (and Vicky Lynn) Fisk of Oelwein, IA, Kent Douglas (and Deborah Lynn) Fisk of Troy, IL, Terry Allen (and Debora DiAnn) Fisk of Muscatine, IA, and Mark Edward (Donna Marie) Fisk of Sarasota, FL, eleven grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sue was first and foremost a housewife and mother that would tackle any challenge. She received her high school diploma from Gibson City Illinois Schools where she was employed for several years as a Teacher's Aide. She also was employed at Wal-Mart and Pete's Cleaners for many years.

Her pride and joy was her family and working with children, especially her church family at Greentree Christian Church in Rolla where she was a dedicated youth counselor.

She will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on Thursday, August 16th at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Justin Cook and Chris Foster will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Sue L. Fisk Memorial Fund.

Canton– Reba Lee Burton, 90, of Canton formerly of Astoria, passed away Tuesday August 14, 2018 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born on August 6, 1928 in Winslow, Indiana, to Virgil James and Ada Esther (Ashby) Woods. They preceded her in death.

She married James Arthur Burton on November 28, 1946 at Pleasant Ridge Church in Indiana. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2013.

Also preceded her in death is one son James Keith Burton, one brother James Woods and one sister Eula Fern Corn.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Kay (Dale) Parr, of Lewistown, and Diana (Charles) Waggoner, of Portales, New Mexico, six grandchildren, Michael Parr, Kristi (James) Barclay, Bethany Jarrell, Melissa Brown, Jason Waggoner and Zachary Waggoner, nine great grandchildren, Ryan and Alana Wilhelm, Taylor and Reagan Jarrell, Tyson and Adrianna Brown, Nicholas, Joshua, and Xander Waggoner, and three great great grandchildren, Lyndsey and Rory Wilhelm and Jayce James Williams.

Reba loved her Bridge club, but most of all she was a loving and generous Christian woman who loved the Lord and her family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, the Reverend Matt Spangler will officiate the service.

Burial will be held at Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Petersburg, Indiana. Graveside services will be held on, Saturday August 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Central time.

LaVern E. Anderson

LaVern E. Anderson, age 86 of Macomb, IL, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 9:45 am Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on April 17, 1932 in Astoria, the daughter of Samuel and Ruby (Hulvey) Workman. She married Herbert Howe on May 16, 1951 in Astoria. He preceded her in death in 1988. She later married Charles Anderson in Astoria. He survives.

Also surviving are her son, Thomas (and Glenda) Howe of Astoria, two daughters, Judy Kennedy and Linda Kaufman of Normal, IL, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one step-son Robert Anderson of Williamsville, IL, two step-daughters, Cindy Branch and Debbie Sutton, both of Macomb, IL, 7 step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, and two brothers, James (and Roberta) Workman and Max (and Marilyn) Workman, both of Astoria.

LaVern was preceded in death by her parents, one son John Howe, her sister Marjorie Wilson, and her brother Virgil Workman.

She was a homemaker. She also worked for Stevens Publishing in Astoria for several years.

She was a member of the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb. She enjoyed playing cards and games at Lafayette Square Apartments, where she resided.

Graveside services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Astoria Cemetery. Pastor Donnie Case will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Maple Avenue Christian Church. There will be no visitation.

Joseph John Plecki


Canton – Joseph John Plecki, 54, of Canton, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 28, 1964 in Fort Worth, TX to Raymond and Josephine (Fudala) Plecki. He married the love of his life, Laurie Maddox on September 12, 1987 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. She survives along with their two daughters; Emily Marie and Lindzey Nicole Plecki, both of Canton. Lindzey is expecting their first granddaughter (Penelope) in the fall.

Also surviving are three sisters, Beth Beekman, Debbie (Larry) Wengler, and Fran Hansen; father-in-law, Louis A. Maddox; three brother-in-laws, Mike (Suzie) Maddox, Ken (Diane) Maddox, Jeff Maddox; two sister-in-laws, Julie Moore and Leigh Ann (Kevin) Bonney; a beloved dog, Samantha Raye, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mark Plecki.

Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. He last worked for Spoon River College in maintenance for over 20 years. He was a kind-hearted loving father and husband. He loved spending time with his family, woodworking, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Pittsfield – Donald J. Brown, 95 of Pittsfield, IL, formerly of Oquawka and Farmington, IL, passed away at 7:25 AM on Friday, August 10, 2018 at his residence. He was born on April 25, 1923 in Farmington, IL to Dewey and Ruth (Harrington) Brown. He married Lela M. Maple on May 9, 1944 in Canton. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2006.

 Don was also preceded in death by his parents.

 Surviving is one brother, Tom Brown of Farmington, IL; one son, Dennis Brown of Pittsfield, IL; two grandchildren, Kimberly Brown of Peoria, IL and Michael (Diane) Brown of Ladd, IL; one great-granddaughter, Julya Brandt of Peoria, IL; one great-great granddaughter Makenzie Childs of Peoria, IL.

 Don worked for Keystone Steel & Wire for 30 years. He was also a 54-year member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, traveling, sharing stories, photography, crossword puzzles, and most importantly family.

 Don was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving between 1943-1946. Don served in the 65th Infantry Division A-Company 259th Infantry Regiment earning 4 battle stars and 1 Bronze Star Medal. 15 months of which were served in General Patton’s Army in France and Germany. Don served on the Honor Guard for US General George Patton’s funeral procession.

Canton- Carol A. Tippey-Woollums, 79, of Canton, passed away at 10:40 AM Saturday August 11, 2018 at her home.



She was born May 2, 1939 at Canton, the daughter of Dwayne and Dorotha (Perry) Frederick. She married Jim Woollums in 1991 at Burlington, IA. He survives with five children, Clay Tippey and Dena Tippey both of Lexington, KY; Michelle (James) Kelly of Bloomfield, NJ; Cathy (Steve) Hadsall of Canton, and James (Jennifer) Woollums of Spring Hill, FL; seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Linda Arnett.



Carol retired in 1995 from Illinois Bell where she worked as a telephone operator many years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She enjoyed gardening, shopping on QVC, and spending time with family.

Canton – Mary Alice Henderson, 94, of Canton passed away at 12:20 am Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Red Oak Estates in Canton.  She was born on May 9, 1924 in Canton to Peter and Vera (Stefanich) Starcevich.  Mary Alice married Harold A. Henderson on February 11, 1950 in Canton.  He preceded her in death on October 24, 2002.  Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers; Joseph and Peter “Sonny” Starcevich.  Surviving are two sons David A. Canton-  Ricky J. Hull, 48, of Canton passed away at 1:38 PM Wednesday August 8, 2018 at his home.

He was born July 13, 1970 at Canton the son of Paul L. and Pilsun (Kim) Hull. His father preceded him in death. Surviving are his mother of Canton, one daughter, Lilianna Kuehner of Colchester, four siblings, Kim Hull of Cuba, James Hull of Norris, Rachel Hull of East Peoria and Jessie (Billie) Hull of Ohio.

Ricky last worked as a machinist at Bowers in Macomb. Ricky enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hanging out with friends and helping them out. He will always be remembered for his smile.

Cremation will be accorded. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Cuba Cemetery. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is assisting the family with arrangements. William “Bill” Millington


Canton– William “Bill” Millingotn,88, beloved brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather died on August 5, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center of Canton. Bill was born in Tower Hill, IL, on July 16, 1930. He was the son of Albert and Veda (Guinnee) Millington.
Bill graduated from Canton Senior High School and joined the Navy at 17 to see the world. He was stationed in Key West, FL on the USS Howard W Gilmore during the Korean War. After his discharge from the service, Bill worked at the CILCO Power Plant in Havana, IL Caterpillar, and International Harvester. Ultimately, he followed in his father’s footsteps and became an educator because he “always loved kids”. He was proud of his education. Bill earned a B.S. degree in biology, a master’s degree in education and went on to become an Educational Specialist all from Western Illinois University. In 1985, he retired from education in Illinois, moved to Florida and continued to work in education and retiring there twelve years later.
Bill leaves behind his sister, Jean (Ralph) Froehling; daughter, Stacie (Mark) Hinrichs, son Michael (Dori Ashton) Millington, and daughter Heather (Brett) Wasserman; six grandchildren; Allison, Robert, Faerin, Lindsey, Hunter and Ethan; and five great grandchildren Cameron, Evelyn, Emma, Logan, and Bennett. Also, he leaves nephew’s, Alan (Barb) Froehling, John (MaryAnn) Froehling, David (Anna) Froehling, and niece Lynn (Brian) Martie.
Bill returned from Florida 10 years ago to spend the remaining years in Canton. Bill enjoyed reminiscing with old friends at coffee, spending time with family, and attending his boyhood church.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday August 9, 2018 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton at 11:00 a.m.

Canton- Gloria L. Goodwin, 85, passed away Monday, August 6, 2018 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born in Canton, on October 22, 1932 to George and Lula (Hinch) Eales.
She married Hughey Goodwin on October 23, 1952 in Pittsfield, IL. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2012.
Also preceding her in death were, her parents, brother Lorne Eales, and four sisters, Alene Likes, Edith Oitker, Edna Brownlee and Bertha Mae Hardy.
Gloria is survived by four children, Edward (Laurie Wilcoxen) Goodwin of Canton, Linda (Fred) Barrow of Canton, Paul Goodwin of Farmer City and Gary (Jill) Goodwin of Canton, brother George Eales of Wilton Manor, FL, sisters Dorothy Kaufmann of Springfield, Georgia Hutmacher of Springfield and Erma Garner of Canton many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Gloria worked at Wells-Lamont Glove factory in Barry, later worked at Canton Manufacturing and last worked at YWCA day care.  She also baby set her grandchildren and many others. She attended Covenant Community Fellowship Church in Canton.

Daniel G. Fuller


Canton – Daniel G. Fuller, 57, of Canton, passed away at 6:25 AM on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Graham Hospital E.R. He was born on May 21, 1961 in Canton, IL to Richard and Joan (Sherwood) Fuller. He married Lynn Lowery on June 24, 2000 in Dunlap, IL. She survives.

Also surviving is his father, Richard; two sons, Jacob and Joshua Fuller both of Canton; one sister, Linda (Rodney) Henderson of Pekin, IL; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ron and Judy Lowery of Dunlap, IL.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Joan.

Dan was an owner and operator of Fuller Jewelry in Canton, IL. He was a mason at the masonic lodge in Canton, IL.

Dan grew up in the small town of Banner. He had a wide array of artistic talents that touched many lives. He designed and made his own jewelry. He designed book covers, wrote a short story with the Whitesboro Writers Group, and also wrote poetry. He also took up his grandfather’s skill of wood working. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his awesome zucchini bread. Dan was a devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed spending time with his children and family.

Services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Rev. Tim Bauler will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, IL. Nancy C. Rutherford


Canton – Nancy C. Rutherford, 83, of Canton, formerly of Fairview, passed away at 7:20 AM on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Graham Hospital. She was born on November 6, 1934 in Canton, IL to Jacob and Irene (Phipps) Lindstrom.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Rutherford of Morton and Laura (Steve) Nuttall of Canton; two granddaughters, MacKenzie and McLean; one great-granddaughter, Maylee; and one sister, Mary Newcomb of Fairview.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.

In 1952 Nancy graduated from Graham Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as a Registered Nurse from Illinois Correctional Center after 13 years of service. Nancy was a member of the Fairview Reformed Church in Fairview and the Fairview American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer, Duke fan, and loved to play cards. Nancy enjoyed her granddaughter’s softball games and other activities. She always had a special place in her heart for her great-granddaughter, Maylee.

Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Fairview Reformed Church in Fairview, where a visitation will be held from 12-1 PM. Pastor Mike Huson will officiate. Robert E. Fulton


CANTON- Robert E. Fulton, 59, of Canton, passed away at 1:30 PM on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton. He was born on September 12, 1958 in Canton, a son of Richard M. and Alma M. (Hughes) Fulton.

Surviving is one brother, Steven R. (Mary Jane) Fulton of Carlock; one step-brother, Jack (Julie) Ballard of Canton; one step-sister, Julie (John) DeFrates of Rocky Mount, Missouri; one aunt, Merrie (Alan) Schweigert of Morton; two uncles, Russell Fulton of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; Frank Hughes of Rock Island; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert worked for Fulton County Rehabilitation Center (FCRC) in Canton for several years. He was a member of the Farmington Moose Lodge #1571, and an avid St Louis Cardinals and Pittsburg Steelers Fan.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the services. Rev. Paul E. Dillefeld,


CANTON- Paul E. Dillefeld, 68, of Canton, passed away at 7:26 PM on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Mason District Hospital Emergency Room in Havana. He was born on July 31, 1950 in Canton, a son of Eldon and Charlotte (Eddy) Dillefeld. He married Toni Sepich on July 19, 1969 in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Chad (Shannon) Dillefeld of Peoria; Jill Dillefeld of Canton; three grandchildren, Brooklyn, Cameron, and Ella; four step-grandchildren; one brother, Mark (Patty) Dillefeld of Canton; two sisters, Gail (Jerry) Orwig of Canton; Dena (David) Foster of Oglesby.

Paul worked for Caterpillar and retired after 30 years of service, and later became the owner and operator of the Fairview Nursey. He was a member of Canton Gear Jammers and was a mason of the Masonic Lodge in Canton.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 6, 2018. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Sharon Ann Berry


Canton – Sharon Ann Berry, 72, of Canton, IL, passed away at 9:15 AM on Friday, August 3, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones at her home.

Sharon was born on June 29, 1946 to Russell and Katherine (Skender) Hedden.  Both of them preceded her in death.  She married John A. Berry on October 13, 1962.  She and John raised three children- Sondra (David) Gould of Anna, IL, John Robert “Bob” (Marsha) of Canton, and Valerie (Eric) Harms of Oak Forest, IL.  She was the proud “Mimi” of eight grandchildren, Tom, Sean, and Erin Gould; Lauren, Joel, and Emmaline Berry; and Isabelle and Bethany Harms.  She had one great-grandson, Adam Gould.  Sharon is also survived by one sister, Janet Hedden, her niece, Kelly Hartford Mierkowski, and childhood friend, Reba Mooney. 

Sharon graduated from Canton High School and attended Spoon River College.  She spent her life raising her children, and she provided a happy and loving home for all who entered.  She later worked for School District 66 as a reading and teacher’s aide from which she retired in 2005.  A devoted and strong Christian, Sharon attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. 

Sharon was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends.  She was a lifetime member of the Croatian Fraternal Lodge.

 Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Burial will follow at Wrights Cemetery in Rural Lewistown, IL. A visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the funeral home.

Judy Ann Eddy


Canton-Judy Ann Eddy, 74, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Graham Hospital in Canton surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 4, 1944 in Canton to Glen Myers and Shirley Essex-Jarnigan.  They preceded her in death.

She married James “Jim” Eddy on June 7, 1996 in Lewistown.  He preceded her in death on November 20, 2004.

Surviving are her children, Terri Breese of Douglasville, GA, Lisa (Randy) Breese-Stufflebeam of Belleville, IL, Tammy Breese-Johnson of Bartonville, Jennifer Fall-Martin of Canton, Jamie Fall of Peotone, IL, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one brother, James (Marcie) Myers of Canton, two sisters, Kathy Eskridge of Canton, Janice Myers of Canton, five nephews and two special cousins, Cindy Rodney and Bill Balbinotti.

Judy worked as a private housekeeper in the Canton and surrounding area for 30 years.

Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

A funeral services will be 11am, Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton where visitation will be 1 hour prior to services.

Burial will be held at the White Chapel Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
