Jo Ann Hess
Canton –Jo Ann Hess, 78, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
She was born on February 24, 1939 in Farmington to Earl and Charlotte (Welker-Beaird) Archdale. They preceded her in death.
She married Frank Hess on March 16, 1957, in Palmyra, MO. He survives.
Also surviving is her daughter, Rhonda Jo Hess Howard of Bushnell, brothers, Gary Beaird, Don Archdale, Terry Archdale and two grandchildren, Kimberly Jo Howard of Los Angeles, CA and Jennifer Jean Howard of Bushnell.
Jo Ann was a devout Christian who loved her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was well known on the world of boxing as she was a chairman of junior boxing for the State of Illinois in 1978 and 1979. She helped start the Silver Glove boxing for the youth which started in Fulton County. She was taken into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000. She sang in a group called the Gospel Notes. She worked at the YWCA and the Canton Country Club. She was a very kind and loving woman and will be sorely missed by family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 2 pm, at the Maryville Cemetery in Bryant. They family will be holding a celebration of life at the Canton American Legion from noon until 1:30 pm, on Thursday also.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Compassus Hospice.
