Farmington – James Edward Richards, 90, of Farmington, passed away at 8:09 AM on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Courtyard Estates in Farmington. He was born on December 21, 1926 in Hanna City, to Robert and Clara (Albright) Richards. He was married to Edith E. McAlister on December 21, 1946 in Hanna City, happily married for 70 years. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Michael (Raelynn) Richards of Lebanon, MO, Ronald (Deb) Richards of Pekin, IL, William (Beth) Richards of Canton, IL, and Janet (William) Jordan of Chillicothe, IL; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Richards, and two grandchildren.
James retired from Otis Elevator Company in Peoria, IL. He was a member of Hanna City United Methodist Church and Peoria Southwest Kiwanis.
James served first in the Merchant Marines then later in the Army.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL, where a visitation will be held from 9-11 AM. Rev. Jeremy Lafary and Rev. Bob DeBolt will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Rural Hanna City, IL. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
