Lewistown – Dick J. Ackerman, 92, of Rural Lewistown, passed away at 1:14 AM on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Graham Hospital. He was born on June 17, 1925 in Gifford, IL. Son of Carl and Dora (Wolken) Ackerman. He married Earline (Beckner) Herron on February 23, 1957. She preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death are his parents, one brother, and one stepson, William Herron.
Surviving is one daughter, Darlene Parks of Mundelien, IL; one stepdaughter, Sue (Tim) Monn of Lewistown, IL; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He farmed several years near Rantoul, IL. He later moved to Little America and was employed at Caterpillar, Inc. in Mapleton, IL, where he retired in 1983. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Rev. Shane Smith will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Apple Cemetery in Rural Lewistown, IL. Memorials can be made to Lewistown United Methodist Church.
