Elgin Almeda Cook
Canton – Elgin Almeda Cook, 95, of Canton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 26th at 2:50 AM. She was born on January 30, 1922 to Jean and Nannie (Bennett) Comstock. She married Eldon Cook of Stronghurst on June 11th, 1941 at the home of her parents. They celebrated their 60th anniversary before Eldon’s passing on September 6, 2001.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her oldest son Larry William “Bill”, her youngest daughter Elgin Elaine (Cook) Ostiguy, her son-in-law James Ostiguy, two older brothers and a granddaughter Heather Cook. Survivors include her son Jerry Lee Cook of Argyle, TX, and daughter Nana Sue Cook of Canton. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Peter Ostiguy of Denver, CO, Steven (Lexi) Ostiguy of Cedar Falls, IA, and Nathan Ostiguy of Des Moines, IA, Chad (Michelle) Cook, and Kim (Matt) Jones both of Dallas, TX, two great-grandchildren and the newest great-grandchild, Harrison James Ostiguy, born less than a week before her passing.
She was a devoted homemaker and loved cooking, gardening, canning, and sewing for her family in the early years. She especially relished her role as a farmer’s wife and loved entertaining family and friends in her home. She was active in Home Bureau and was an enthusiastic member of PTA. After graduating from Spoon River College in 1974 as a licensed practical nurse, she worked at what is now the Renaissance Nursing Center. She also volunteered for 10 years with Meals on Wheels.
The family were members of the First Christian Church in Blandinsville and transferred their membership to the First Christian Church of Canton shortly after moving to Canton in 1955. She served for several years on the missions committee and other committees within the church. She was a 55 year member of the CCC Sunday School class and was very active the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She never stopped growing in her faith and her devotion to Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 30, 2017 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton at 11 a.m., where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
