Gail D. Sherwood
Canton- Gail D. "Red" Sherwood, 77, of Golden Acres and formerly of Smithfield, passed away at 9:25 AM Tuesday September 5, 2017 at Golden Acres.
He was born November 9, 1939 at Smithfield, the son of William and Irma (Pigg) Sherwood. Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Debbi Inman of Marquette Heights, Larry Howerter of Monroe City, MO; Ralph Wright of Canton, Marla Thompson of Lakeside, AZ; Sandra Schmidt of Lakeside, AZ; and Diane Shepard of Raleigh, NC; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Idonna Wright, Orla Eickmann, Eleanor Bowman, Marlon Sherwood, Marla Howerter, and Billy Wendell.
Red was a truck driver and lived in Southern California before retiring and moving back to Smithfield. He served in the Air Force from 1959-1963. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, and enjoyed skeet shooting, dune buggies, and drag racing. The family would like to express a special thanks to Golden Acres in Canton.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday September 11, 2017 at Baughman Cemetery at rural Smithfield. Military rites will be accorded by the Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533. Memorial contributions may be made to Golden Acres. Condolences may be made at henrylange.com
