FARMINGTON- Robert
Charles Lindley, 95, of Farmington, passed away at 7:30 AM on Friday,
July 08, 2016 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on September 20,
1920 in Peoria, a son of Charles Melvin and Leona Francis Bushaun
Lindley. He married Marcella Cox on September 20, 1947 in Peoria, IL.
She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David (Pam) Lindley of
Chandler, Arizona , Paul (Sherri) Lindley of Hanna City; four daughters,
Marsha (Kevin) Hughes of The Colony, Texas, Claudia (Tim) Threw of
Yates City, Cindy (Mike) Abel of Farmington, Teresa (Greg) Daggett of
Liberty, and one sister, Bernadette Kimble of Chillicothe, 11
grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Phil, one granddaughter, Cheryl, one great-grandson, Dylan, two brothers and three sisters.
Robert
and his partner had a painting business in Farmington for many years.
He later worked as a salesman for Getz Fire Equipment, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. As World
War II veteran and recipient of a Bronze Star, he was a member of the
11th Armored Division Association and Veterans of the Bulge. Robert was a
member of the American Legion Post #140 in Farmington. He served as
state president of the Illinois Wildlife Federation during the years
1965 and 1966, and was an Explorer Scout leader. He was a member of the
Farmington Moose Lodge #1571, Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th
degree, and Sons of the American Revolution. He was a Paul Harris
Fellow within the Farmington Rotary Club, and was president of the
Tri-County Senior Center. In addition to his various club involvements,
Robert was an avid fisherman, hunter and pitch player.
Funeral
Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Saint Matthew’s
Catholic Church in Farmington, where visitation will be from 10:00 AM
until the time of the Funeral Mass. Father Paul Stiene will officiate.
Reciting of the Rosary at 4:30 PM, and visitation will be from 5:00 PM
to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home,
with Moose rites at 6:45 PM.
Burial will be at 2:30 PM on Tuesday,
where Military Honors will be conducted, at Resurrection Cemetery in
Peoria. Memorials may be made to his Church, Farmington Rescue Squad
1100 or to the Tri-County Senior Center.
