Dean Johnson, 90, of Red Oak Estates in Canton and formerly of
Lewistown, passed away at 6:12 PM Tuesday July 12, 2016 at Red Oak
Estates, surrounded by his family.
He
was born October 23, 1925 at Macomb, the son of Floyd Wilson and
Ethlyn Belle (Hammond) Johnson. He married Mary Jo Kennelly on January
7, 1949 at Macomb. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2015. He was
also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jack Johnson, and one
brother, Ronald Johnson. Survivors
include one son, Eric Johnson of Orange Beach, AL; three daughters,
Kristina (James) Lewis of Sebring, FL; Kelly (David) Embry of Lewistown,
and Cara (Jerry) Bainter of Peoria, a daughter-in-law, Debbie Johnson
of Canton, 11 grandchildren, Jon Jacobus, Jim Jacobus, Jenni Markello,
Rachael Mulligan, Ashley Johnson, Justin Johnson, Matthew Farwell,
Nathan Farwell, Jacob Bainter, Jeris Bainter, and Camryn Johnson, and 10
great grandchildren.
Dean
was a WW 2 Army veteran serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a
graduate of WIU in Macomb where he played football as a running back
from 1947-1949 and was a leading letterman. He had also played football
for the Army during his service. He was a member of the Illinois Street
Christian Church, Lewistown VFW Post 5001, the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, and
WIU Alumni Association. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and
outdoorsman.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday July 16th
at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, where visitation will be
held from 9:30-11:00 AM Saurday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery
with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American
Legion Bishop Post 1. Memorial contributions may be made to Red Oak
