Lewistown - Vernon
Lee Ratliff, 86, of Lewistown, passed away at 7:15 PM Monday February 23, 2015
at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born
February 5, 1929 in Petersburg, the son of Robert Lee and Bertha Jane (Craig)
Ratliff. He married Glenna G. Case on June 2, 1956 in Canton. She preceded him
in death on May 11, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two
brothers, Garland and Loren Ratliff, four sisters, Lucille Holler, Helen
Peters, Ella Losey, and Joyce Ann Ratliff, four brother in-laws, Don Holler,
Gene Garrett, Albert and Alfred Case, and one sister in-law, Louise Ratliff.
Surviving are his two daughters, Sandra (LeRoy) Robinson of West Peoria, and
Christina (Brian) Wyss of Lacon, one son, Alber Lee Ratliff of Lewistown, 11
grandchildren, Sean (Corinn) Simpson, Katrina (David) Foust, Nathaniel
Robinson, Joe Robinson, Robert Robinson, Kasey (Colton) Donnelly, Meghan
Ratliff, Alexandra Shores, Caige Wyss, Chase Marie Wyss, and Meghan Wyss, six
great grandchildren, Timothy Wilson, Sean Simpson Jr; Aiden Simpson, David “Ricky”
Foust III, Ethan Robinson, and Easton Donnelly, one aunt in-law, Dorothy Goett
of Peoria, three brothers, Charles (Linda) Ratliff of Springfield, Merle (Bev)
Ratliff of Easton, and Greg (Patty) Ratliff of Easton, three sisters, Barb
(John) Fink of Pekin, Patty (Darrell) Robertson of Mason City, and Katie
Garrett of Springfield, two brother in-laws, Pete Peters of Peoria, Dale Losey
of Springfield, one sister in-law, Cindy Case of Lewistown, and several nieces
and nephews.
Vernon worked
as a farm hand his entire life. In the course of that time he worked for his
father, Robert Lee Ratliff, brother Garland Ratliff, John Hoobley of Cantrall,
Robert Thompson of Lewistown, Dennis Turner of Smithfield, and Norris Farms by
Dickson Mounds before retiring in 1992.
Vernon loved
spending time with his children and grandchildren, and was very proud of all of
them. He enjoyed weeding his yard by pulling dandelions and creeping charlie.
He always kept himself busy by finding something to do or that needed to be
done. He was a very loving and caring man who would do anything for anyone.
Services will
be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with
Pastor Randy Munson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services
and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to
