London Mills – Frank Vernon
“Vern” Cremer, 90, of London Mills died at home, surrounded by his family, at
1:20 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015.
He was born March 8, 1924 in
Abingdon, to Frank A. and Jessie L. (Chenault) Cremer. He married Louise H. Smith on October 9, 1944
in Rochelle. She preceded him in death
in 2006.
He is survived by his three
children, Terry (Bonnie) Cremer of Canton, Karen (Richard) Bhear of London
Mills, and Vicki (the late Jerome) Tinder of London Mills; six grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hope Braaten of
Aitken, MN.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, one brother, and one sister in infancy.
Vern, as he was known, served
from November, 1943 to April, 1946, in the U.S. Army as a light truck
driver. He was proud to have served with
the 13th Armor “Black Cats” in Europe. After his service time, Vern earned his
pilot’s license and flew for a short time for Hicks Gas. He eventually returned to farming and retired
as a farmer in 1980.
Funeral services will be held at
11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2014 at the Coal Creek Bible Church in rural
Fairview, with Rev. Don Miller officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. at the Oaks-Hines
Funeral Home in Canton. Burial, with
military honors, will be at Coal Creek Cemetery in rural Fairview.
In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests memorials be made to your local food pantry.
