Ray E. Shannon, 65, Marietta, Illinois passed away at 1:46 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.
He was born November 7, 1949 in Canton, to Ora A. and Betty A. (White) Shannon. He married Vicki Derry on July 15, 2000 in Marietta, IL. She survives.
He is survived by his 2 sons, Shane (Mandy) Shannon, and Chad Shannon, 2 daughters, Shanlyn (Tim) Brown and Tiffany (Erik) Babcock. Also surviving is 4 step-sons, 1 step-daughter, 26 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and his beloved companion.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Shannon.
Ray was a laborer for several manufacturing plants in the area. He also served in the US Army veteran serving in the Vietnam war from August 1969 to April 1971 where he held a rank of E-4, serving in Fire Base Ripcord, receiving the Bronze Star with V for Valor.
He was an active member of the Bushnell VFW
and the Ipava American Legion Post #17.
Ray loved to fish and hunt, especially ducks. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Visitation will be at 10:00
a.m. until 12 Noon on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Shawgo Memorial Home in
Ipava, IL, with military rites provided by the Ipava American Legion Post #17 at
12:00 noon.
Cremation rites will be accorded following
the visitation with burial of ashes to be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Walter Payton Liver Center at the University
of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
