Canton
– Dorothy Mae Grigsby, 87, of Gallatin, TN, formerly of Lewistown,
passed away at 12:53 AM Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Sumner Regional
Medical Center, Gallatin, TN.
She was born July 22, 1927 in London Mills, IL to Orval and Marie (Buck) Toomer.
Dorothy married Charles H. Grigsby Sr. on May 20, 1944 and he died May 24, 1998.
Surviving
are 2 children, Charles (Onna) Grigsby of Lewistown and Sheila
(Charlie) Nelson of Gallatin, TN; 14 grandchildren; 23 great
grandchildren; 10 ½ great great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mary Sill
of Canton and Verda Roberts of Farmington.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Shirley Brown; and brother, Bill Toomer.
Dorothy
was a 50 year member of Lewistown Rebekah Lodge #566 where she was a
noble grand from 1993 to 1994. She was awarded the Decoration of
Chivalry in 1995. She was also the president of Rebekah District
Association #11 from 2000 to 2001 and was a member of L.A.P.N. Lodge #9
in Macomb where she was a past president. Dorothy went to Washington,
D.C. to lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers several
times. She was also a member of Rebekah Banner Lodge #6 in Gallatin, TN
and was a past noble grand of Rebekah Lodge #1 in Gallatin.
Services will be at 11:00 am Friday, January 30th at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with Rev. Kevin VanTine officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 29th from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home with Rebekah rites at 4:45 pm by the Lewistown Rebekah Lodge.
Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.
Memorials may go to the Shriner’s Crippled Children Hospital.
