Ruby Herriford

Ruby I. Herriford, 89, of Canton, died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.

She was born in Lewistown on June 12, 1925 to Frank David and Bernice E. (Chambers) Hughes.
She married John Herriford in Palmyra, MO on April 1, 1943. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1991.

Surviving are three children John Herriford of London Mills, James Herriford of Canton, Joseph (Dawn) Herriford of Rockville, TN, and Brenda (Rudy) Hadsall of Canton), six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and one sister Betty Downing of Canton.

She was preceded in death by one brother Delbert “Gene” Hughes.

Ruby was the head of housekeeping at Coleman Clinic in Canton retiring in 1996 and was active at the YMCA in the senior exercise classes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.

Calvin Jay McLouth

Canton – Calvin Jay McLouth, 91, of Canton, died at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born in Buckheart Twp., Fulton Co. on December 23, 1923 to Marshal and Almeda (Brown) McLouth.
He married Jane E. Lyddon on June 10, 1950 in Canton. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2014.
Surviving are three children, Beth E. Moreland of Washington, Daniel J. McLouth of Mapleton, and Michele “Shelly” McLouth of Canton; one sister, Charlotte Negley of Norris; two grandchildren, Jacob (Jennifer) McLouth and Sarah (Ryan) Green; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Luke; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother Lorrin McLouth, one sister Helen Post and one nephew, Bruce Negley.
Jay was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church. He had worked as a coal miner, working at Little Sister, Truax-Traer for a total of 46 ½ years retiring from Consol in 1987. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a 65 year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, an avid gardener and traveled around his yard on his lawn mower. His highlight was participating in coffee at McDonalds twice a day.  Most of all he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held from 9 am -10:30 am at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
Memorials may be made to Monterey Church or the Illinois Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Anita Silman

Brimfield – Anita Louise Silman, 77, of Brimfield passed away at 7:12 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, from complications of breast cancer.
She was born May 14, 1937 in San Antonio, TX, to Raymond E. and Louise C. (Walter) Waters.  She married Robert “Bob” Silman on September 7, 1958 in Corpus Christi, TX.  He survives.
Also surviving are four children, Thomas (Suzzanne) Silman, Allison (Mike) Neumann, Peter (Michelle) Silman, and Edward (Alma) Silman; one sister, Mary Anne Miller; and nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Thomas, Kaleigh, Colette, Camille, Taylor, Zachary, Noah, and Jonah.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Anita graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX and attended the University of Texas.  She was a bus driver for the Brimfield School District, retiring in 2014, after 32 years.  She was a member and past-president of the Illinois Valley Kennel Club, a foster parent for the Children’s Home of Peoria, and a member of the Texas Exes Association.  She was a Doberman Pinscher breeder, an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed reading.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, where visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Home of Peoria, Illinois Valley Kennel Club, or to the American Cancer Society.

Donald L. Ball

Cuba – Donald L. “Doc” Ball, 80, of Cuba passed away at 1:08 PM Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Unity Point-Methodist in Peoria.
He was born August 9, 1934 in Canton to Lawrence and Helen (Johnson) Ball.  Doc married Mauricette Bontemps in 1958 in France.
She survives along with four children, Patrick (Lori) Ball of Vista, CA, Ronald (Anita) Ball and Rodger (Julie Foster) Ball both of Cuba, and Michele (Harold) Smith of Canton; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandson; 2 brothers, Kenny Ball of Galesburg and Lyle Ball of Fairview; and three sisters, Charlotte Hill of East Peoria, Elenor Hahn of Galesburg, and Vivian Harr of Canton.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; 2 brothers; and 1 sister.
Doc worked for Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon for 45 years.
He was a member of Fox Hunter’s Association.
He enjoyed riding horses, fast pitch softball, hunting, and fishing.
Services will be at 3:00 pm Friday, January 30th at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with visitation two hours prior.  Rev. Andrew Fife will officiate.
Burial, with military honors, will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Bill Gray

Canton - Bill Gray, 60, of Canton, passed away Friday January 23, 2015 at Northwestern Medical Center in Chicago.
 
He was born November 2, 1954 at canton, the son of Earl W. and Pauline H. (Ford) Gray. Survivors include one son, William Joseph Gray of North Carolina, two grandchildren, one brother, Mike (Joanne) Gray of Cuba, two sisters, Patricia Rohrer of Avon, and Phyllis (Tom) Hostetter of Freeport, and several nieces and nephews including, Melvin Duckwiler Jr. of Cuba, and Amber (Tom) Stewart of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one nephew.
 
Bill had worked as a machinist at International Harvester in Canton. He enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.
 
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend Don Miller officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services and burial will be in Cuba Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Dorothy Mae Grigsby

Canton – Dorothy Mae Grigsby, 87, of Gallatin, TN, formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 12:53 AM Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Sumner Regional Medical Center, Gallatin, TN.
She was born July 22, 1927 in London Mills, IL to Orval and Marie (Buck) Toomer.
Dorothy married Charles H. Grigsby Sr. on May 20, 1944 and he died May 24, 1998.
Surviving are 2 children, Charles (Onna) Grigsby of Lewistown and Sheila (Charlie) Nelson of Gallatin, TN; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 10 ½ great great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mary Sill of Canton and Verda Roberts of Farmington.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Shirley Brown; and brother, Bill Toomer.
Dorothy was a 50 year member of Lewistown Rebekah Lodge #566 where she was a noble grand from 1993 to 1994.  She was awarded the Decoration of Chivalry in 1995.  She was also the president of Rebekah District Association #11 from 2000 to 2001 and was a member of L.A.P.N. Lodge #9 in Macomb where she was a past president.  Dorothy went to Washington, D.C. to lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers several times. She was also a member of Rebekah Banner Lodge #6 in Gallatin, TN and was a past noble grand of Rebekah Lodge #1 in Gallatin.
Services will be at 11:00 am Friday, January 30th at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with Rev. Kevin VanTine officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday, January 29th from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home with Rebekah rites at 4:45 pm by the Lewistown Rebekah Lodge.
Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.
Memorials may go to the Shriner’s Crippled Children Hospital.

Dusty Davis

Canton – Dustin D. “Dusty” Davis, 67, passed on at 3:22 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Graham Hospital Emergency Room in Canton.
He was born on August 1, 1947 in Canton to Harold E. and Loretta (Jacobs) Davis.
He married his soul mate, Patricia A. Danner in Canton on December 24, 1968. She survives.
Surviving is one son Jason Davis of Canton and one granddaughter Haleigh Davis.
Dusty was a machinist for Machine Manufacturing in Canton. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during Vietnam.
A visitation will be held 1-3 p.m.a on Wednesday January 28 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Cremation rites will follow.
Burial with military honors will be private at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Alice Annette Echerd

Lewistown - Alice Annette Echerd, 81, of Lewistown, passed away at 8:50 AM Friday Jan. 23, 2015 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
 
She was born April 7, 1933 at Cuba, the daughter of Jasper H. and Sada R. (Landis) Scott. She married James Wilmer Echerd on June 24, 1962 at Lewistown. He died November 14, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister. Surviving is one daughter, Rebecca L. (Michael) Schulte of St. Louis, MO; two honorary grandchildren, Joseph C. Southard and Rickie Jo Southard both of Bryant, four sisters, Virginia (Harlan) Hedges, Margaret Lefler, and Frances Henderson all of Canton, Audrey Apple of Indianapolis, IN; and one sister inlaw, Mary Etta (Flambers) Scott of Canton, and 10 nieces and nephews.
 
Alice had worked at Atwood/Dana-Victor in Havana, and later worked as a CNA before retiring. She was a 50 year member of the Rebekah Lodge #566, and had served as past Noble Grand, and past District 11 President.
 
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday January 31, 2015 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with Reverend Rushing officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment of ashes will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown Rescue Squad or Vitas Hospice. Miriam Campbell


Canton – Miriam J. Campbell, 72, of Canton, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.
She was born on August 16, 1942 in Lincoln to John and Mary (Caldwell) Nelson.
She married James K. Campbell in September 3, 1960 in Macomb. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons Lance (Monica) Campbell of Philo and Kevin Campbell of Cuba, 4 grandchildren Solara, Kristin, Brandi and Cameron, 1 great grandchild Audrey, brother David (Beverly) Nelson of Arizona, and sister Judy Kay (Soloman) Schlecht of N. Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Mitzi Gay, and two brothers Phillip and Steven.
Miriam was a homemaker and a member of the Macomb Assembly of God Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Donald L. Hadsall

Lewistown - Donald L. Hadsall, 79, of Lewistown, passed away at 8:10 AM Thursday January 22, 2015 at his home.
 
He was born July 4, 1935 at Virginia, IL; the son of David and Jessie Louise (Braden) Hadsall. He married Dorothy Mae Bennett on June 22, 1957 at Canton. She died July 25, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, three brothers, and one sister. Surviving are two children, Steve (Debbie) Hadsall and Mary Lou Grubor both of Lewistown, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one sister, Betty Myers of Liverpool.
 
Donald retired from International Harvester in Canton. He was a member of the UAW, and Crossroads Methodist Church where he had served on the board. He was also a member of the Lewistown Optimist Club for over 30 years and had served as president from 1982-1983.
 
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services, and burial will be in Waterford Cemetery at rural Lewistown.
