Raymond G. “Gene” Snyder

Raymond G. “Gene” Snyder, 89, of Canton, passed away on January 18, 2026 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on December 11, 1936 in Lincoln, IL, to Raymond and Eileen (Schroeder) Snyder. Ray married Virginia Urbanc on March 29, 1985 in Peoria. She survives along with two sons: Mark of Ohio and Scott of Florida, five grandchildren: Nicholas, Zachary (Lisa), Chelsea, Brittany and Connor, two great-grandchildren: Joseph and Jaimie: brother, Gary (Mary) of Kenosha, WI, two nieces: Cori and Rachel, and special friend Lisa Flier.

Ray was predeceased by an infant daughter, Diana Lynn. He was baptized at Methodist Episcopal Church in New Holland, IL. He graduated from Manual High School in Peoria. He was an enlisted Army veteran, serving from August 1955, to July, 1958. Ray retired from Caterpillar in 1992 with 37-1/2 years of service.

He enjoyed winters at Lake Okeechobee in Florida and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 26, 2026 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Visitation will be held from 1:30-3:30 pm on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Burial of ashes will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Canton.
