Lois Cleer

Canton – Lois “Virginia” Cleer, 93, of Canton, IL passed away at 10:50 PM Monday, February 16, 2015 at Renaissance Care Center, Canton.
She was born February 25, 1921 in Table Grove, IL to Everett and Nellie (Kirkbride) Hammond.  She married Leland Cleer on March 3, 1940 in Keokuk, IA.
He preceded her in death.
Surviving are her son, Dale (Sue) Cleer of Lewistown; two grandchildren, Francine (August) Appleton of Springfield and Andrew Cleer of St. Louis, MO; two step-grandchildren, Byron Noe of Canton and Anella (Bart) Vig of Tampa, FL; one great grandson, Henry Appleton; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and one brother.
Virginia was a secretary for VIT High School for 22 years.
She was a member of the Table Grove Community Church.
She had a collection of 1200 Teddy Bears that she collected throughout the years.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be no services.
Burial of ashes will be at a later date at Ipava Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Humane Society.

Richard Behm

Canton – Richard Albert “Rich” Behm, 75, of Canton died at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2015, in Peoria.
He was born October 4, 1939 in Peoria, to Wilbert H. and Rita M. (Reynolds) Behm.  He married Evelyn M. Vaughn in November, 1971.  She died on May 9, 2007.
He is survived by his children, Susan (Gene) Morgan-Tisdale of Canton, Jeff (Carla) Malmgren of NY, Lisa Behm, Chris Behm, and Rick Behm; several grandchildren, including a special granddaughter he called “George”, Jessica (Brian) Kinsel; one sister, Pat (Dennis) Grigg; four brothers, Bill Behm, Jim (Kathy) Behm, Dan (Judy) Behm, and Robert (Marie) Behm; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Debbie, who he was very close to; and special friends, Joe (Tammy) Long, Doug (Toni) Painter, and Ron (Angie) Piper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Richard Thomas Long Jr.; and two nephews, James J. Behm Jr. and Michael T. Behm.
Rich was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country in the Korean War.  He was an Experimental Foundryman for Caterpillar, retiring after 31 years.  Rich loved spending summers fishing in Minnesota.  He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan, and always wore a smile.
He was a member of the Canton VFW Post #1984, Canton American Legion Post #16, and the Canton Elk’s Lodge #626.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.  Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial, with military honors, will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the American Cancer Society.

Robert Schenck

Houston, TX - Robert Schenck, 91, of Houston, TX, formerly of Canton, passed away at 1:50 PM Saturday February 14, 2015 at Sunset Hospice in Houston.

Charles Staten

Canton – Charles “Pete” G. Staten, 82, of Canton passed away at 11:20 AM Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Sunset Nursing Home, Canton.
He was born October 23, 1932, in Dupo, IL to John E. and Bertha (Hickman) Staten.  Pete married Ada Jones on December 10, 1999 in Kingston Mines. 
She survives along with one step-son, Dustin Jones of Canton; three grandchildren, Lori (Kalson) Abel, Eddie Kalson Jr, and Mark Byers; and two great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two step-children, Vickie (Kalson) Rilea and John Byers Jr.; one brother; and seven sisters.
Peter worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for over 30 years retiring as a Millwright.
He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict as a MP.
He was a member of Canton American Legion Post #16, VFW Post #1984, and 40 and 8 Voiture #812.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 18th at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with visitation one hour prior.  Rev. Dave Utt will officiate.
Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Kingston Mines Cemetery.

Vernon Collins



Bartonville - Vernon M. Collins, 76, of Bartonville, passed away at 12:22 AM Saturday February 14, 2014 at Unity Point Health Methodist, Peoria.
He was born April 10, 1938 in Toone, TN to John V. and Mattie (Kelley) Collins. He married Joan Nolen on November 4, 1955 in Corinth, MS, she survives.
Surviving are three children, Bettye (Terry) Short of Bellevue, Phyllis (Mike) Raker of Bellevue, and Pam (Rick) Catoner of San Bernardino, CA; five grandchildren, Cody Raker, Jessica (Luke) Kerley, Jennifer (Jeremy) Vincze, Amanda Short, and Tara (Ian) Wilkey; one great grandson, Wyatt Wilkey; and one brother, Terry (Sally) Collins of Madrid, NY.    
His parents and one brother precede him in death. 
He retired from Keystone after 42 years of service, where he was a Forman at the Steel Mill.   
He was a member of the Bartonville American Legion Post 979 and Bartonville V.F.W.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason.  He cooked fish for many years for the Bartonville Fish Fry and was one of the first to fry fish for the Keystone Retiree fish Fry.  He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing, shooting trap, and working in his garden. 
Vern served in the National Guard.
Services will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Endsley-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Bartonville, where visitation will be held two hours prior.  Rev. Gerald Steffy will officiate.
Cremation Rites will take place following the service.  Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Hildreth Nebergall



Canton - Hildreth L. “Hilda” Nebergall, 88, of Canton, passed away at 4:13 PM Friday, February 13, 2015 at Sunset Manor, Canton.
She was born in Canton on November 19, 1926 to Henry B. and Fern (Harper) Lingenfelter.
Surviving are three children, Steven (Sherrie) Nebergall of St. David, Kenneth (Cynthia) Nebergall of Canton, and Sharon (Rick) Bosserman of Lewistown; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Ward, Stacy Zukowski, Summer Yost, Stefanie Harger, Tim Roberts, Ryan Roberts, Aaron Nebergall, Jacob Nebergall, and Ian Bosserman; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lawrence Monroe Lingenfelter of Mt. Pleasant, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Larry Nebergall and Janis Nebergall; one brother; and four sisters, Betty Helterbran, Helen Willis, June Jennings, and Ferna Garner.
She graduated from Lockridge High School in Lockridge, IA.
Hilda worked at Admiral, in Galesburg, as a laborer for 23 years. She also worked at several nursing homes and local restaurants.  She volunteered at Love Incorporated and was a foster grandparent.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Canton.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the First Church of the Nazarene, where visitation will be held two hours prior.  Pastor Jim Bledsaw will officiate.  Burial will follow at High Bridge Cemetery, Dunfermline.
Memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, Canton or St. David Nazarene Church.
