Sarah Evelyn Roddis, 94, of Ipava, IL, passed away at 7:55 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center after battling the effects of a stroke for the past 5 years. Evelyn was born on August 17, 1925 near Smithfield, IL the daughter of Ned Taylor and Doris Catherine (Howarter) Gray.
Evelyn was a graduate of Cuba High School. Following high school, she worked various secretarial jobs, including the National Guard at Camp Ellis in Ipava. Evelyn met the love of her life, Phil Roddis, and the two were married on November 30, 1943. They made their home of nearly 67 years on the family farm until Phil’s passing on January 15, 2010. Also preceding Evelyn in death are her parents and brother, Robert Taylor Gray.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Robert Dean (and Sandy) Roddis of Ipava, grandson, Bo Roddis of Asheville, NC, granddaughter, Sarah Roddis of Table Grove, IL, and 5 immediate nephews and nieces, Steve, Mark and Todd Gray, Bill Roddis, and Phyllis Fleming.
Evelyn was a homemaker, and worked alongside her husband with the farm duties, while caring for her family She was a loving mother and grandmother to her 2 grandchildren, whom she adored. Her family was truly her entire life.
Evelyn’s family would like to thank the staff and wonderful caregivers at Clayberg Nursing Center and Praireview Care Center, along with a special thank you to Evelyn’s roommate at Clayberg and friend, Sally Van Dyke.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in the Ipava Cemetery. Pastor Doug Krukewitt will be officiating. Memorials May be made to the Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center in Cuba, IL.
