Canton-Lyle A. “Blackie” Massingale, 80, of Canton, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on June 11, 1935 in Fiatt, to Elihu and Anna (Bath) Massingale. They preceded him in death.
He married Ruth A. Williams on October 14, 1961 in El Cajon, CA. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Massingale of Wee-Ma-Tuk, Joseph (Fiancée Maleah Gass) Massingale of Canton, one sister, Caroline Fleischer of Canton, half-sister, Lori Towery Massingale of Ohio, grandchildren, Lily Vinita Scalf, Loran Ann Massingale, Taylor Nicole Massingale, Brook Alexandria Massingale and three great grandchildren.
Lyle served in the US Navy from 1954-1958. After the service he worked for General Dynamics in California and later came back to Illinois to work for the Freeman United Coal Mine from which he retired. He enjoyed hunting squirrel, deer and rabbit. He also enjoyed watching movies, drawing and collecting.
Lyle had two passions in life. One was drawing. He starting drawing on the eighth grade and continued though out his lifetime. The other is his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle near and far.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, from 5-7, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at 1 pm, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Fiatt Cemetery.
