Sylvia Juraco

Sylvia Juraco, 85, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Courtyard Estates in Farmington.

She was born on June 15, 1935 in Galesburg, to Joseph A. Sr. and Virginia L. (Urbanc) Sepich. They both preceded her in death.

Sylvia married Matthew James Juraco on November 19, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1987.

She is survived by eight children, Martha (Chuck) Davis of Farmington, Margaret Juraco of Joliet, Charles Juraco of Canton, Catherine (Tim) Bartlett of Mt. Pleasant Wisconsin, Edward (Payette) Juraco of Highlands Ranch Colorado, Marianne (Tom) Neidermann of Batavia Illinois, Virginia (Richard) Price of Melbourne Florida and Caroline Juraco of Canton, One brother, Michael Sepich, two sister in laws, Elizabeth Juraco and Myra Sepich Talkington, ten grandchildren, Ian (Christina) Davis, Daulton Davis, Christine Bartlett, Hannah (Kyle) Rozek, Philip Bartlett, Kaitlin Bartlett, Sarah Neidermann, Emily Neidermann, William (Kim) Price and Tynia (Mike) Whiddon, five great grandchildren, Evelyn, Lillian, Sebastian, Emily and Kaia and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She dedicated her life to her family and her faith. Her happiest moments in life were spent with her family during holidays with her faith being the center of the holiday. 

Sylvia worked at Caterpillar for a short time before she was married. She then married and devoted her time to her family and her faith.

She was active in parish work and was one of the original people to help plan, organize and work at the St. Mary’s Food Pantry which opened on August 12, 1985, and is still serving the people of Canton and surrounding areas.

She was the secretary and librarian for the St. Mary’s CCD “religious education class” program for many years, working closely with sisters Jane and Jeanette. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Faith Study Club, the Sacred Heart Croatian Fraternal Union 367 and was a lay associate of the Franciscan Sisters.

After her husband passed, she worked for the American Red Cross. She was a Cub Scout leader and was an avid pro life activist. 

Sylvia received a Community Service award from the Canton area Chamber of Commerce, recognizing her for her unselfish civic and church volunteer activities. The Sacred Heart Croatian Fraternal Union also recognized her for this achievement. 

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday January 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. A rosary service will be held at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a funeral procession to church for mass at 11:00 a.m..

Burial will immediately following the mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton.
