Canton- Carroll L. Barnes, 87, of Canton passed away at 2:58 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at Graham Hospital. He was born September 25, 1931, in rural Joshua Township in Fulton County near Fairview, the youngest of nine children of Ralph and Lola (Benner) Barnes. He married Mary M. Senders on October 23, 1948, in Lewistown.
She survives along with son, Kenneth (Katherine) Barnes of Chillicothe and daughter-in-law Maureen (Chap) Barnes of Rolling Meadows, along with two grandchildren, Cara (Jeff) Shoup of Chandler, AZ, and Jason (Ashley) Barnes of Chillicothe and five great grandchildren, Adam Bridges, Emma Bridges, Carissa Barnes, Nicklaus Barnes and Anderson Barnes.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rodger Bruce Barnes, his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
He began working at Spoon River Electric Cooperative on his sixteenth birthday in 1947 as a forestry man and worked there for 48 years, retiring in 1995 as a journeyman lineman.
He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.
Cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, and per his wishes there will be no visitation nor services. A private burial at White Chapel Memory Gardens will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
