Debra Elaine Walsh Asbury

Farmington- Debra Elaine Walsh Asbury, 59, of Farmington, passed away at 7:56 AM on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at her residence. She was born on December 13, 1965 in North Adams, Massachusetts, a daughter of Richard and Harriette (Sargent) Walsh Sr. They preceded her in death.


Surviving are her daughters, Amanda Asbury of Yates City; Heather (Sanjeev) Choudhary of Springfield, Vermont; three grandchildren, Landyn Asbury, Jasmika & Ira Choudhary, and one brother, Richard Walsh Jr. of Vermont.


Debra was a faithful member of Agape Christian Fellowship in Brattleboro, Vermont. She enjoyed singing, and helping the deaf community with sign language skills.


Per Debra’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded through Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, a celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date in the state of Vermont. Vernon E. Crum

Vernon E. Crum, 85, of London Mills, passed away, Sunday, August 24, 2025, at his home.

He was born in Havana, on May 11, 1940 to Howard and Alice Fern (Smith) Crum. They preceded him in death as well as four brothers, and five sisters.

Vernon married Bonnie (Davidson) Crum, on November 26, 1970, she preceded him in death on July 21, 2012.

He is survived by two sons, Douglas (Maureen) Goulding, and William D. Crum, three grandchildren, DeLayna Goulding, Natalie Goulding, and William J. Crum, and several nieces and nephews.

Vernon graduated from Havana High School in 1959. He is a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Caterpillar and retired in 1993. He later drove a school bus until 2004 for Valley schools. Lastly Vernon owned and operated Swegle Creek Nuisance Control. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and visiting at Spoonie’s with friends. Most of all Vernon enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund.

A funeral service will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Friday August 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Barbara Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Burial will immediately follow at Wiley Cemetery in Ellisville.

Evelyn L. West

Evelyn L. West, 62, of Lewistown, passed away, surrounded by her family on Friday, August 22, 2025, at her home.

She was born in Springfield, on June 19, 1963, to Robert E. and Anita (Moss) Peters. They preceded her in death as well as her son Joshua Crowell - West

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Bill West, they were married on July 4, 1987 in St. David.

Also surviving is her daughter, Cheri Lillie, grandson Aaron Levi Lille whom she raised, daughter in law, Anna Tuttle, brother Robert Dean Peters, five sisters, Kathy (Jason) Baker, Angie Nettler, Carol Jean Sisson, Nancy Fields, and Melissa (Brian) Thompson, thirteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Evelyn first worked in healthcare for 19 years, she later worked as assistant manager at Casey’s North in Lewistown, as well as County Market. She was a member of the St. David Church of the Nazarene, and was a former first lady of Illinois optimist International, as well as Women’s Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening. Most of all Evelyn enjoyed everything about her family, especially her grandchildren and all their friends.

A visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research.

The family would like to thank the teams at OSF Hospice, Help at Home and caretaker Jennifer Edwards for the loved and care they gave to them.

Judith A. Goodwin

Judith Ann Goodwin left her body on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:39 a.m. She was born in Peoria, IL, on April 8, 1939, and was raised in Canton, IL. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, George and Muriel James; her parents, Marshall and Melba Hudson; and her sister, Karen Welton.

Judi graduated from OSF’s ORT program and ICC’s nursing program. She also attended ISU. She was a private scrub nurse for the late Harry Ores, M.D. She later moved to Orlando, FL, and worked for TWA and American Airlines.

She is survived by her children, Robin Fuller, Kendall (Lisa) Fuller, Allyson (Chris) Keister, Wendy O’Connor (Jeff Martin), and Melissa Goodwin; and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Sally (Ray) Morse, Becky (Steve) White, and Pam (Chuck) Patterson; and many nieces and nephews.

Judi loved and adored her Westie, Lola. She loved the arts and had been a docent at Lakeview Museum and at Loch Haven Museum of Art in Orlando. She loved art, classical music, and genealogy, and nature. She welcomed hummingbirds and wrens into her flower garden each year.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Judi requested there be no services. We would like to thank her caregiver, Misty Kennedy, who Judi considered part of her family.

Daniel “Dan” Everett Smith

Daniel “Dan” Everett Smith, 56, of Canton, passed away, Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born in Peoria, to Edward “Ed” and Margaret “Peggy” (Thompson) Smith. They preceded him in death.

Dan married Margaret “Maggie” (Hamilton) Smith on June 12, 2011. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2023.

He is survived by two step children, Jeannie (Dauquan Terry) Hamilton, and Naomi (Jason) Carson, three siblings, Regina Burgett, Coral (David) Nichols, and Jim Bush, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and his three cats, Princess, Squeaks, and Furby.

Dan is a graduate of Farmington High school with the class of 1988, where he was the basketball manager. He first worked at Kersh’s Café, and also mowed yards for over 40 years. He then delivered newspapers for 30 years for the Canton Daily Ledger. Lastly Dan enjoyed starting and helping his niece Amanda and her husband Taurean with operating their party business H & A Party Rentals LLC. Dan is a member of the Bethesda Pentecostal Church in Pekin. He was a pet lover, and an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He also loved to go fishing, Kayaking, and walking.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton at 4:00 p.m. visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made in his name for his benefit, Game Night with Uncle Dan, help on September 7, 2025 at the Canton Elk’s Lodge #626, from 1:00 pm. until 6:00 p.m.

Kenneth L. Saupe

Kenneth L. Saupe, 89, of Brimfield, passed away at 3:27 a.m., on Monday, August 20, 2025, at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Kenneth was born June 12, 1936, in Peoria, IL, to William and Margaret (Stewart) Saupe.

Kenneth married Rose Ash on July 27, 1964, in Pekin. She survives.

Kenneth is also survived by four children, Debby Moore of Pekin, Tammy Hatten of Pekin, Tina Hasty of Brimfield, and Kim Schrader of Walnut; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren;

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norman Saupe; one granddaughter, Jessica; and one great-granddaughter, Adrianna.

Kenneth served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1963. He then worked as a Machinist at Caterpillar for 31 years and retired in 1996.

Kenneth was very loving and a people person who had a lot of friends. He was someone would give his shirt off his back to a stranger.

Kenneth enjoyed spending time outside mowing and doing yardwork or relaxing in his chair watching softball or Westerns (unless his grandkids were visiting; he would enjoy watching cartoons and laughing with them). He loved riding his Honda motorcycle and dancing. He had a ‘sparkle in his eye’ as his wife, Rose, would say. Ken was especially over the moon with meeting his newest great grandbaby, Henry. Ken was such a family man who loved very deeply.

Ken fought cancer for three years and was surrounded with love from his family during his last few days.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Per Kenneth’s request, there will be no visitation services. His family will plan a Celebration of Ken’s Life at a later date.

Lana Downs

Lana Downs, 59, of Canton, passed away at 8:55 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at her residence. She was born on November 18, 1965 in Canton, a daughter of Larry Norman and Doris Irene (Henderson) Weaver. She married Mike Downs on May 18, 1991 in Canton. He survives.


Also surviving are her children, Cassandra Downs of Canton, and Colton Downs of Canton; one brother, J. Garrett Weaver of Lewistown.


Preceding Lana in death, were her parents.


In her younger years she enjoyed showing sheep at local fairs and livestock shows, where she won Grand Champion at the Illinois State Fair Sheep Show. She was avid Chicago Bears fan, and worked the Cuba Head Start as a Teacher’s aide.


A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 26, 2026 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, where visitation will from 4:00 PM until the time of services. Stacy Tomich will officiate. Burial of ashes will take place in Shields Chapel Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Canton Special Olympics. Forrest E VanOrman

Forrest E VanOrman, age 98 of Manito, formerly of Forest City, passed away on Wednesday, August 20 at 3:46 p.m.


He was born in Forest City to the late Ford and Goldia (Hovey) VanOrman on July 22, 1927. He married Alverne Marilyn Craig on November 20, 1949 in Armington. They were married forty-five years until her death on October 19, 1995. He later married Marilyn Smith Thompson on November 27, 2003. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2019.

He was also preceded in death by his two sons: David Marc and Richard Neal; one infant granddaughter, Jessica; two stepsons: Mark and Steve Thompson; as well as four siblings: Helen Montgomery, Wilbur VanOrman, Vera Cloyd, and Raymond VanOrman.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law Sarah vanOrman of Peoria, grandchildren Cydil (Nathan) Waggoner of Vlashaj, Albania, Jenny (Seth) Shaw of Bridgewater Corners, VT, Hannah vanOrman of Peoria, and Justin VanOrman of Forest City; great-grandchildren Elisona and Reni Waggoner and Tua and Pippa Shaw; step-grandchildren Jeff (Tracy) Thompson of Manito, Stacy (Jeff) Lawrence and great-granddaughter Sophia of Jacksonville, FL.

Forrest was active in civic and church groups throughout his life including: Forman Ambulance and Fire Department (13 years), Mason County 9-1-1 Board (11 years), Mason County Board of Review (35 years), Forman School Board (9 years), Forest City Community Church choir and board, Manito Community barbershop quartet, Forman Community Chorus, Mason County chorus, Optimist Club 1952-1985, Rotary Club, Mason County Farm Bureau, Mason County Irrigated Growers, and was a precinct committeeman for the Republican Party. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris award.

A third-generation farmer, Forrest farmed in Forest City from 1945-1995. His life demonstrated loyalty to family, pride in his profession, and dedication to serving his local community. His knowledge, wit, and engaging spirit endeared him to all.

Funeral services will be held at Forest City Community Church, at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 25, 2025, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near Forest City. Rev. Dann Berker will officiate.
