Carrol D. Williams
Canton – Carrol D. Williams, 90, of Canton, passed away at 8:51 AM on Wednesday, August 03, 2016 at Sunset Rehabilitation & Health Care in Canton. He was born on September 28, 1925 in Canton to Ernie and Mildred (Pollitt) Williams. He married Evelyn J. MacPhee on October 23, 1943 in Canton, IL. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2013.
Also preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers, Cletus and Eddie, and one sister, Ramona.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Sue (Alan) Welch of Lewistown, IL, and Sally (Paul) Sonneman of Jamestown, OH; four grandchildren, Eric (Christy) Welch, Jenny (Scott) McMahan, Christopher (Tiffany) Sonneman, and Matthew (Tracy) Sonneman; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Frank Williams; and three sisters, Eleanor Yurkovich, Marilyn Christy, and Melody Mathews Wagner.
Carrol worked and retired as a supervisor at Hiram Walkers. He was a member of First Christian Church in Fiatt. He was a volunteer for Hospice and was very committed to the Illinois Literacy Program. He was recognized for his contributions to the program with an award from the State of Illinois.
Carrol was a WWII Veteran. While serving in the 70th Reconnaissance Unit in France and Germany he was responsible for sending and receiving Morse code communications.
Carrol and his wife Judy traveled extensively through the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. They enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and loved their pets.
Carrol will be remembered by friends and family for his generosity in helping others, and his wit and charm.
Graveside services will be at 10 AM on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Rev. Jim Menne will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton. Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens. Memorials can be made to Harbor Light Hospice.
