John G. “Butch” VanHouten
FARMINGTON- John G. “Butch” VanHouten, 70, of Farmington, passed away at 10:40 PM on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at his residence. He was born on June 22, 1945 in Farmington, IL, a son of Howard “Swede” and Helen Westerby VanHouten.
Surviving are one brother, James (Sandy) VanHouten of Farmington; two sisters, Dianne (Tony) Morton of Farmington, Vicki Lynn Feger of Lewistown; his fiancé, Lola Gaffney of Durand, IL., three sister-in-laws, Artis F. VanHouten of Farmington, Bonnie VanHouten of Monterey, Marie VanHouten of Middlegrove, also surviving are 21 nephews and nieces and 38 great and 21 great-great nephews and nieces.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Kenneth, Ronald “Zeke”, and Thomas VanHouten, and a nephew Howard.
He was a United States Air Force Veteran where he served four years, and later served 28 years in the Illinois Air National Guard retiring in March of 1997 as a Chief Master Sergeant (CMSGT). Butch also retired as a Federal Civil Service Employee with over 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Farmington Moose Lodge #1571, VFW Post #04724, Fairview American Legion Post #0644, Hanna City Sportsmen’s Club, North American Hunting Club and Civil Engineering Association.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Rev. David L. Swain will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Alzheimer’s Association.
