Canton
– Claudette Joan Michalec, 78, of Canton died at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 2,
2015 at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.
She
was born July 12, 1936 in Chicago, to Anton J. and Estelle A. (Hanzlik)
Janetka. She married Dr. Edward Michalec
on June 11, 1955 in Chicago. He
survives.
Also
surviving are two children, Scott and Todd (Christina) Michalec, both of
Germantown Hills.
She
was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Anthony R. Janetka.
Claudette
worked as a Medical Secretary for the Medical Director of the University of
Illinois Medical School in Chicago until 1963.
Prior to her illness, she was President of the University of Illinois
Dames Club in Chicago and was a former member of the Canton YWCA Board of
Directors and a former member of the Peoria Area Dental Auxiliary Board of
Directors.
Claudette
was an excellent cook and baker and she enjoyed sewing, needlepoint,
crocheting, knitting, reading, and gardening.
She also enjoyed taking many vacations throughout the U.S. and Canada
with her husband and boys. Above all,
Claudette was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic
Church in Canton.
Visitation
will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home
in Canton. A Funeral Mass will be held
at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in
Canton, where visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of
Mass. Burial will be held at the Chapel
of the Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, IL on Thursday, May 7,
2015 at 11:30 a.m. Family will receive
friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials
may be made to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church or to the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society.
