Russell Davis


St David– Russell A. Davis, 41, of St. David, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 4:33 pm, at the OSF St Francis Hospital in Peoria. 
He was born on May 1, 1974, in Canton to Terry and Joy (Ewing) Davis.  His mother preceded him in death,
Surviving are his father of St. David, brothers Greg Strode of St David, Ronnie (Kelly) Strode of Bader and his sister, Melanie (Gzim) Abazi of Newark IL.
Also surviving is his niece, Chelsea Strode and nephew Rylee Strode.
Russell worked in sales for Silver Leaf Resorts in Ottawa and later for Silver Leaf Resorts in Galveston Texas.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling to different destinations.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 2 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation one hour prior.
Burial of the ashes will be held at the Highbridge Cemetery in Dunfermline following the funeral.

Mildred R. Lafary


Ellisville – Mildred R. Lafary, 93, of Ellisville died at 4:47 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.
She was born September 1, 1921, in Ellisville, to Ray and Florence (Mahr) Martin.  She married Archie V. Lafary on December 10, 1938, in Keokuk, IA.  He preceded her in death on October 21, 2008.
She is survived by three children:  Lawrence (Judy) Lafary of Riverton, Lucille (Robert) Kinsel of Canton, and James (Susie) Lafary of Lewistown; six grandchildren, Todd (Elaine) Kinsel, Holly (Frank) Martin, Gail (Jason) Reith, Jaime (Craig) Grove, Scott (Kristin) Lafary, and Sherry Lafary; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Mildred was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm.  She enjoyed gardening and was a member of Wiley Lutheran Church.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Wiley Cemetery in rural Ellisville.  Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Norman G. Ford


Farmington – Norman G. Ford, 95, of Farmington died at 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Country Comfort in Elmwood.
He was born on July 30, 1919, in rural Oak Hill to George and Effie (Ries) Ford.  He married Alice Louise Jones on March 28, 1945, in Peoria.  She preceded him in death on September 17, 2000.
He is survived by three children, Jeanie (Herb) Stufflebeam of Staunton, Bonnie (Jim) Northrup of Elmwood, and Rev. Gary (Claire) Ford of Pekin; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Ford; and one grandson, Jeffrey Ford Stufflebeam.
Norman was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving his country in the South Pacific during WWII.  He worked for Caterpillar as a tool grinder, retiring in 1980, after 37 years of service.  He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Farmington American Legion Post #140, where he was a past Commander.  He was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Farmington United Methodist Church, where visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.  Burial, with military honors, will be at Yates City Cemetery.  Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley A. Strode


Shirley A. Strode, 79, of Canton, passed away at 10:50 am Sunday, May 24 at Graham Hospital in Canton.  She was born on May 3, 1936 in Canton to Fred A. and Anna Laura (Moore) Somers.  Shirley married Dick Strode on July 3, 1955 in Canton.  He preceded her in death on January 5, 1998.  Also preceding her in death were her parents and one great grandson Cohen Stremmel.  Surviving are 4 children; Gregory G. Strode, Jeffrey J. (Tina) Strode, Laura L. (Todd) Harris, and Scott S. (Heather) Strode all of Canton, 10 grandkids; Ketra B. (Aaron) Stremmel, Andrew J. (Camille) Strode, Joel T. (Natalie) Strode, Jared S. (Crystal) Strode, Alissa A. (Andrew) Christman, Bethany B. Strode, Maggie A. Harris, Drake S. Strode, Samantha R. Strode, and Rebecca A. Shirley was a 1954 Canton High School Graduate, loved to read, wrote encouraging and inspirational cards, letters, and notes.  Was a caretaker for many family members, did genealogy, enjoyed lunch with friends, and was a sports fan of the Cubs, Cardinals, and Canton High School. She worked as a secretary at WIU, King’s Auto Electric, and Lawrence McMunn Law Office.  Shirley was a member of Shield’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and great grandmother.

Services will be 11 am Thursday, May 28 at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton with Rev. James P. Nichols

 
Canton – James P. Nichols Sr., 83, of Canton passed away at 9:13 am Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Renaissance Care Center, Canton.
He was born October 10, 1931, in Farmington, IL to James H. and Matilda (Brohn) Nichols.  He first married Sherry Nebergall and then Alice Jones.  He married Mary Jean (Lowder) Waddell on July 10, 2003 in Virginia, IL.  She survives.
Also surviving are 3 children, Diane (Mike) Davis and Chuck (Teresa) Nichols both of Florida, and Kelly Everett of Tennessee; one adopted daughter, Chris Dilts; five step-children, Tammy, Karen, Vicki (Mike) Ward, Robyn (Skip) Berto, Lisa, and Debora (Robert) Bown; numerous grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, David (Pat) Nichols of Canton; and his favorite dog, Izzi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jimmy and Eddy Nichols; one step-daughter, Donna Jean (Pollitt) Vance; 3 brothers, Doug, Walter, and Phillip; and two sisters, Jackie and Rosemary.
James retired from the Duck Creek Power Plant and was a member of I.U.O.E. Local #649.  He then worked for the Canton Park District.
He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.
James enjoyed bowling, fishing, and was an avid Cubs fan.
He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 28th at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton where visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday, May 27th.

Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.

Kathy Stucky


Ellisville-Kathy S. Stucky, 62, of Ellisville, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born on November 4, 1952 in Canton to Albert and Betty Bucks.  They preceded her in death.
She married Stanley L. Stucky on June 2, 1973, in Canton.  He survives.
Also surviving are her two children Jennifer Cozart of Fairview, Timothy (Annette) Stucky of Fairview, one brother, Michael Bucks of Yorkville, IL and her grandchildren, Steven, Jordan, Carter, Parker and Lilly.  One brother Bob Bucks also preceded her in death.
Kathy retired in 2012 from the Ellisville post office.  She was an avid cardinal fan and enjoyed bowling.
Most of all Kathy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed attending the grandkids sporting events and activities.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015, from 5-7 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.  A funeral will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10 am at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at the Fairview Cemetery.

George Leo Gray


Lewistown – George Leo Gray, 79, of Lewistown, passed away at 8:04 AM Wednesday May 20, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.

He was born June 11, 1935 at Kerton Twp; Fulton County, the son of Roy Nelson, and Lucille Vivian (Beadles) Gray. He married Laura McMillan May 14, 1988 at rural Lewistown. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Wyatt, three sisters, Helen, Maxine, and Harriet, and three brothers, Gene, Bill, and Dennis. He is survived by one daughter, Julia Gray of Vancouver, WA; four step children, Phyllis (Mike) Rowley of Kingman, KS; David Kane of Jacksonville, IL; Linda Cornett of Centerville, UT; and Larry Kane of Pleasant Plains, IL; two grandchildren, Danielle and Alexander of Washington, eleven step grandchildren, Natalie of Kansas, Melissa of Illinois, Justin of Kansas, James of Wisconsin, Laura of Illinois, Amy of Utah, Ginger of Utah, Chase of New York, Aubry of Utah, Hollie of Illinois, and Bill of Illinois, 21 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leo served in the Army from 1955-1957. He worked in farming, construction, at International Harvester, and had also drove a semi for 15 years before retiring.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial of ashes will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Edna M. Lybarger

Lewistown- Edna M. “Teenie” Lybarger, 82, of Lewistown, passed away at 3:46 PM Tuesday May 19, 2015 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

She was born December 12, 1932 at Lewistown, the daughter of Bruce E. and Winnifred M. (Slater) Krider. She married Rollin E. Lybarger on June 12, 1950 at Palmyra, MO. Her husband survives along with four daughters, Deborah J. Huggins of Lewistown, Rebecca M. Wilson of Chicago, Kristal K. (Dennis) Sprague of Cuba, and Donna Evans of Cuba, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and one sister, Dorothy Wrestler of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robin Lybarger, two brothers, and three sisters.

Teenie retired in 1997 from Graham Hospital in Canton after working 25 years as a LPN. She participated in the Fulton County Playhouse and enjoyed writing poetry.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home. Gladys D. Matthew


Elmwood – Gladys D. Matthew, 93, of Elmwood died at 4:56 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015 at her home.
She was born April 25, 1922 in Oak Hill, to Walter and Dora (Fussner) Slane.  She first married Vernon Hogue.  Following his passing, she later married Jay C. Matthew on May 9, 1964.  He preceded her in death on December 16, 2001.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Shanklin of Canton; two daughters-in-law, Loraine Hogue of Pekin and Gail Sprout of Yates City; one sister, Bernice (Merl) Malson of Pekin; eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Don, Bob, and Roy Hogue; four brothers, Walt, George, Raymond, and Leroy Slane; and one grandson, Gary Hogue.
Gladys was a housekeeper in the Peoria and Elmwood areas, finally retiring in 2014, at the age of 92.  She was loved and well respected by all who knew her.  She enjoyed telling a good joke, listening to the radio, finding a good bargain, and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Burial will be at Combs Cemetery in rural Edwards.

Wilcoxen 84, of East Peoria, formerly of Bartonville and Liverpool became absent from the body and present with the Lord on May 14, 2015 at 2:30 am at the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.  He was born on March 5, 1931 to Floyd L. and Corrine A. “Brownie” Warren Wilcoxen at home in Liverpool, IL.  He married his childhood sweetheart Donna J. Pollitt on September 29, 1950 in Canton, IL.  She preceded him in death on May 12, 2004.  He is survived by two children, Nancy Jo Lawless (Robert) of Bartonville and Rev. Richard Scott Wilcoxen (Sharon) of Niceville, FL.  Four grandchildren, Nathan (Jeanette) Kurth of Hanna City, Jared (Amanda) Kurth of Peoria, Daniel (Mary Ann) Wilcoxen and Ann E. (Joshua) Riggins both of Niceville, FL. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Zander and Hunter Kurth, August and Allison Kurth, Logan and Kinsey Wilcoxen and Isaiah and Elijah Riggins.  Richard is also survived by three brothers, Floyd E. (Sherill) Wilcoxen of Liverpool, James N. (Carol) Wilcoxen of Rural Lewistown, and Dale L. (Judy) Wilcoxen of Havana and many nieces and nephews.  Richard is also survived by his close friend and cousin, Don (Beverly) Wilcoxen of Canton.  The Family would like to express our love and gratitude to our “special” Aunt Norma Phelps, who helped us look after dad and her children who are like our own brothers and sisters, Doug, Barb, Greg, Clayton and Lenord for their love, concern and prayers.  Richard served in the Navy aboard the USS Pocono during the Korean War.  He worked in engineering at Caterpillar Tractor Co. retiring after 30 years of service.  After he retired, he and his wife Donna served in the RVICS “Retired Volunteers in Christ’s Service”.  They traveled the country in the “home on wheels” doing service projects for Christian schools, Churches and Bible Camps.  Richard was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and served for many years as a member of The Monday Morning Work Group at Grace Presbyterian where he enjoyed serving the Lord by doing what he did best, fixing things that needed repair. He valued the friendship and fellowship he had with his fellow volunteers as they served the Lord together.  Funeral Services will be held at Murphy-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Canton, IL on May 19, 2015   at 11:00 A.M. with visitation an hour before the service.  The Rev. Canton – Ila Marie Lewis, 92, of Canton, IL passed away at 2:53 PM Monday, May 11, 2015 at Heartland Health Care, Canton.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, May 22nd at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico, IL with visitation one hour prior at the church.

Burial of ashes will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tampico, IL.

Donna M. (Hackett) Crumley

Canton – Donna M. (Hackett) Crumley, 75, of Canton died at 11:53 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born on December 27, 1939 in Canton, to Donald and Sally (Daniel) Hackett.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim Dowell Turner and Kelley Dowell Woodward; one grandson, Eddie Dowell; special nephew Jimmy Anderson; and her special friend, Ernest “Gene” Burchett.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Karen Anderson.

Donna was a skilled seamstress and worked out of her home and at Knepp’s Apparel for many years.  She also attended cosmetology school and worked as a beautician.

Donna loved animals, and enjoyed riding horses when she was younger.  She enjoyed playing pitch with her family, going on gambling trips, and relaxing in Missouri.

Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Doria Malmgren

Banner – Doria M. Malmgren, 74, of Banner died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at her son’s home in Monterey. 
She was born January 1, 1941 in Middlegrove, to Raymond and Nellie (Phelps) Grubb.  She married Steve Malmgren on November 6, 1992 in Lewistown.  He survives. 
Also surviving are four children, Crystal (Delbert) Plain of Edwards, John (Shelli) O’Connell Jr. of Galesburg, Kelly O’Connell of Canton, and Larry (Carol Campbell) O’Connell of Monterey; two brothers, Walter (Virginia) Grubb of Ellisville and Shelby (Brenda) Grubb of Hanna City; one sister, Betsy (Rich) Myers of Farmington; fourteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dan O’Connell; one sister, Pat Lewis; and one great-grandchild, Damion Terrell.
Doria was a CNA and had worked for nursing homes in the Canton and Peoria area.  She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington. 
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society.

Yvonda Stell

Lewistown - Yvonda D. Stell, 79, a resident of the Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center in Cuba, and formerly of Lewistown and Bryant, passed away at 3:03 AM Saturday May 9, 2015 at the nursing center.

She was born December 21, 1935 at Pekin, the daughter of Harry and Nola (Moyer) Jones. She married Clifford “Lee” Stell on January 19, 1964 at Lewistown. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2008. She was also preceded by her parents, six brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Rendy (Mark) Lange of Lewistown, two sons, Todd Stell of Pekin, Adam (Jordan) Stell of Minneapolis, MN; and three grandchildren, Ashley Lange (Ryan Hill) of Chatham, Taylor Lange of Japan, and Luke Lange of Lewistown.

Yvonda retired from Graham Hospital after working over 40 years as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Lewistown Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, and collecting cranberry glassware.

Her funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. A private burial will be held Friday at Maryville Cemetery in Bryant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center.
