Bobby E. Barackman

Bobby E. Barackman, 93, of Farmington, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at The Loft Rehabilitation Center in Canton.

He was born August 7, 1930, to Joseph and Irene (Links) Barackman. He married Mary Alice Lederbrand in 1949, in Carlyle, IL. She preceded him in death in 2011.

He is survived by one son, Samuel (Linda) Barackman of Palm Desert, CA; one daughter-in-law, Claire Barackman; two brothers, Gary (Pat) Barackman and Elvin Barackman; four grandchildren, Sarah Holden, Adam Barackman, Britney (Justin) Gunter, and Brent (Angel) Herring; and seven great-grandchildren, Lillian Holden, Maple Holden, Sailor Herring, Jett Herring, Eloise Gunter, Maggie Gunter, and Beau Gunter.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael Barackman and Marcus Barackman; and two brothers, Charles Barackman and Joseph “Junior” Barackman.

Bobby started working at Caterpillar at 18 years old and retired with over 30 years of service. Bobby had many jobs in life, such as farming, delivering papers, and remodeling. Bobby and Mary were married for 62 years. They enjoyed the warm winters in Texas, for 17 years. The two of them enjoyed going to Bluegrass Festivals with their friends. Bobby and Mary also enjoyed spending the weekends camping at Radnor Rod and Gun Club.

His great-grandchildren were the light of his life. Bobby built princess houses and gave lots of golf cart rides.

In his later years, he moved to Courtyard Estates in Farmington. We would like to thank everyone who worked there for the love and kindness they showed Bobby.

Martha Lee Ulmer

Martha Lee Ulmer, age 95, passed from this life to life everlasting on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Wesley Village in Macomb, IL. She was born on June 2, 1928. She married Duane D. Ulmer on September 2, 1944 in Macomb. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1996.


Martha was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Alexa Dailey, her parents, and six siblings.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (and Joyce) Ulmer of Macomb and Mike (and Cathy) Ulmer of Table Grove, IL, one daughter Sue (and Mike) Dailey of Ipava, IL, five grandchildren; Matt (and Kate) Ulmer, Mandy (and George) Holman, Tyler (and Betty) Keime, Devon Dailey and Angel Dailey and six great-grandchildren.

Martha and her husband owned Ulmer’s Ford Sales for thirty-two years in Ipava and later Lewistown, IL. She served the business as secretary and bookkeeper.

In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and the camaraderie that came with it. She also enjoyed crafts with her grandchildren and later at Wesley Village.

Services for Martha will be held on Saturday, September 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Her son Mike Ulmer will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Harris Cemetery in Table Grove. Memorials in her memory may be made to the Vermont Christian Church Playground Fund, the Doddsville United Methodist Church or the Wesley Village Activity Fund.

Richard “Dean” Kruzan Jr.

Richard “Dean” Kruzan Jr., 77, of Cuba, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at The Loft in Canton, IL. He was born on June 5, 1946 in Canton, IL, to Richard Dean Sr. and Nancy M. (Purtle) Kruzan. He married Lynda Polhans on September 12, 2009 in Canton, IL. She survives.


He is also survived by 10 children, Michael (Tina) Kruzan, Quentin (Linda) Bennet, Delbert (Susan) Bennet, Kevin (Corin) Kruzan, Richard Kruzan III, Jacob (Samantha) Kruzan, Jennifer Kruzan, Brent Kruzan, and Matthew Kruzan; 25 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 siblings, 4 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, 15 nieces & nephews; 2 fathers-in-law, Keith Polhans and Ricky Zaremsky; and one mother-in-law, Billie Jo Zaremsky.


He is preceded in death by his parents, two children, Tammy Kruzan and an angel baby; one great-grandchild, Boden Florey; 3 siblings; and mother-in-law, Carrie Polhans.


Dean worked and retired from International Harvester. He was a member of the Canton First Church of The Nazarene. He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking.


Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Canton First Church of The Nazarene in Canton, IL. Pastor Layton Malone will officiate. Burial will follow services at Walnut Cemetery in Banner, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. David Fenner, Jr.

Marietta- David Fenner Jr., 67, of Marietta, passed away at 5:40 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. He was born on February 27, 1956 in Mackinaw, Michigan, a son of David and Mary (Ehersman) Fenner Sr.


Surviving is his son, David (Dawn) Fenner III of Marietta; three grandchildren, Dexx Kurtis Fenner, Skyler Leverton, Joseph Leverton; great-granddaughter, Amara; one brother, Bruce Wayne Fenner, of Fullerton, Missouri, and one sister, Tina Fenner of Arkansas.


David was known as a jack of all trades, and loved to tinker with just about anything.

David A. Lesones

David A. Lesones, 64, of Heyworth, IL, passed away at 10:20 p.m., on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at OSF Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington, IL.

He was born November 23, 1958, to Martin “Carl” and Marjorie (Schulte) Lesones in Elgin, IL.

He is survived by one brother, Donald (Norma) Lesones; three sisters, Marcia (the late Willie) Briggs, Carlene (Richard) Hart, and Carolyn Winans; and several nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Daniel Lesones.

David was an EMT for B.Y.E. Ambulance for 38 years. He was also a former school bus driver for the Farmington and Brimfield School Districts.

David L. Sprout

David L. Sprout, 76, of Yates City, passed away at 10:55 p.m., on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born November 5, 1946, to Ernest and Hazel (VanDusen) Sprout in Yates City. He married Carol Keel on November 5, 1967, in Peoria. She survives.

He is also survived by three children, Matthew (Kathy Tongue) Sprout of Champaign, IL, Chris (Cindy Seidel) Sprout of Metamora, and Tim (Stacie) Sprout of Canton; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Oliver and Gail Sprout; and seven grandchildren, Andy, Mariah, Brady, Nick, Cannon, Lucas, and Malina.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Sprout; two brothers, Bob Oliver and Ernie Sprout; and three sisters, Frances Rynearson, Norabelle Rynearson, and Helen Oliver.

David served in the Air Force as a Sergeant from 1965 to 1968. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #974 and an Electrician at Caterpillar for 35 years where he retired from in 2003. He also worked at Hot Shots Pharmacy for several years. David was a former volunteer firefighter for Elba-Salem Fire Department. He also loved taking photos as well as spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at noon on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow with military rites at Yates City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight and the American Cancer Association.

Jerene “Jeri” Lynn Vaughn



Jerene “Jeri” Lynn Vaughn, 68, of Havana passed away at 4:31 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at her home. She was born on August 25, 1955 in Fulton County, Illinois to James D. and Carol (Curtis) Briney. She married Lloyd A. “Tink” Vaughn in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 5, 1985 and he survives.

Jeri is also survived by her step-daughter, Kim (Russell) Fairow of Athens, grandchildren, Courtney Kincaid and Lucas Pitchford, sister, Janice Briney of Havana, brother, Jay (Robin) Briney of Havana, nieces and nephews, Katie (Kirk) Atwater, Brittany (Sean) Bryant, Jason (Jennifer) Briney, and Jennifer (Jeff) Hole, and great-nieces, Aubri, Jillian, and Juliana. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Curtis Briney.
Jeri worked for Ameren for over 30 years. She was a life member of the VFW Post #6408 Auxiliary.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at VFW Post #6408 in Havana. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.

Eileen Wilson

Eileen Wilson, 91, of Fairview, said goodbye to her family and friends and went to her heavenly home on, Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 8:54 a.m., at Red Oak Estates in Canton. She was born on March 9, 1932, in Pekin, to Elvin and Ethel Mae (Potts) Gray. They preceded her in death. She married Charles “Chuck” Wilson on June 28, 1952, in Canton. He also preceded her in death on November 22, 2008. Surviving are three children, Jim (the late Sue) Wilson of Canton, Sandi (Nels Jr.) Hickman of Fairview, and Willie Wilson of Fairview, three brothers, Arthur, Harry (the late Connie) and Clifford (Carolyn), one sister Linda (David) Clark, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Also preceding her in death are three brothers, Gerald, Earl and Charles, and one sister Carol Montour. Her world revolved around her family. She loved spending time, feeding and caring for them. She also enjoyed jig saw puzzles, crocheting and her flowers. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Foster Cemetery in Fairview. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Robert L. Shawgo

Robert L. Shawgo, 90, of Washington, IL, formerly of Ipava, IL, passed away at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL. He was born on February 12, 1933 in Macomb, IL, the son of Carl and Olive (Johnson) Shawgo. Bob married Norma Shields on July 11, 1952 in Astoria, IL. She survives.


Also surviving are three sons; Michael Shawgo of Chicago, IL, Kenton (and Robin) Shawgo of Astoria, IL, and Gary (and Tami) Shawgo of Peoria, one daughter; Sharon (and Scott) Love of Loves Park, IL, 6 grandchildren; Mandy (and Kyle) Phipps, Kerry Shawgo, David (and Jamie) Love, Sarah (and Jim) Jakymiw, Olivia (and Alex) German, Evan (and Reily) Shawgo, 13 great-grandchildren, and one brother; Bernard Shawgo of Astoria.

Bob graduated from Astoria High School in 1951. He would then attend Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He owned and operated Shawgo Memorial Home with his father and brother, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association.

He was a charter member of the Ipava Berean Christian Church. He was also a member of the Air Craft Owners Pilots Association, Ipava State Bank Board of Directors, and the Ipava Sportmans Club.

Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Doug Krukewitt will be officiating. A visitation will take place one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ipava Berean Christian Church.

Bonnie S. Sinclair

Bonnie Sue Sinclair, 74, of Petersburg, IL passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Columbia, KY on March 3, 1949, to Samuel and Christine (Willis) Cowan. She married David Sinclair on June 14, 1969, at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Dave; her children, Sam (Liz) Sinclair, Shelley (Matt) Greer both of Springfield, Sally (Brad) Ames of Petersburg; her grandchildren, Luke and Nic Sinclair, Grace Sinclair (Cadel) Hortberg, Maddy, Lilli, and Sophie Haddick, Hallie (Westin) Duckwiler, Claire Greer, and Griffin and Grant Ames; siblings, Barbara (Rick) Blakeman, Gail (Ron) Roberts, Dottie (Dave) Smock, Tim Cowan, Steve (Carlene) Cowan, Stacey Skeeters (Brad Cardosi), Brad (Sarah) Cowan, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Debbie Mullinex and her sister-in-law, Nancy Cowan.
Bonnie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg and worked as a secretary for Pleasant Plains High School and the State of IL for many years before retiring. She was a proud member of an area Card Club for over 50 years. Bonnie devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, making sporting events and traveling for their games her number one priority.
A visitation will be held for Bonnie on Monday, September 25, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg. A funeral will also be held at the church on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Pastor Rob Gallion will officiate. Burial will follow at Cartwright Cemetery in Pleasant Plains. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.

John W. Modlin

John W. Modlin, 79, of Macomb, IL, passed away at 6:47 pm on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on May 5, 1944 in Carlinville, IL, the son of John and Wilma (Crouch) Modlin. John married Diana Groff on August 6, 1966 in Rushville, IL. She survives.


He is also survived by his two children; Shari (and John) Connell and Scott Modlin, both of Macomb, granddaughter; Kelsi (and Josh Conger) Connell, and three great-grandsons; Jackson, Gabriel and Aldon Conger.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Richard and David Modlin.

John served as a Cadet in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1963.

John graduated from Western Illinois University in 1970. He was a tool and die maker and worked at NTN Bower Corporation in Macomb. He also helped his father-in-law with roofing and construction.

He was member of the NRA and the Macomb American Legion. He enjoyed Ham radios and riding motorcycles. He loved his granddaughter and great-grandsons.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Dean Potts will be officiating. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. The Macomb American Legion will provide military rites. A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Memorials may be made to WIU Fallen Soldiers Scholarship Fund.

Mary Kay Lessner

Canton- Marilyn Kay Lessner, 82, of Canton, passed away at 9:06 AM on Monday, September 18, 2023 at her residence. She was born on May 26, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana, a daughter of Richard and Dorothea Miller. She married Ralph Garney, he preceded her in death. She later married Henry “Hank” Lessner on April 25, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Cuba. He survives.


Also surviving are her three step-sons, Hank Jr. of Montgomery, Illinois; Donald of Mediapolis, Iowa; Robert of Burlington, Iowa, and one niece Dianna (Bud) Harper of Canton.


She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ralph, two step-daughters, Cynthia Fry, and Kimberly Lessner.



Marilyn worked and retired from JCPenney’s store in Canton, after several years of service. She was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, where she was involved in their quilting club. Once a month she enjoyed playing Bingo with the Busy Dozen Bingo Group in Canton. Marilyn was known as a crafter, loving to sew, quilt, and even bake.


A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a memorial visitation will be from 5:00 PM until the time of the memorial service. Rev. Shane Smith will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private family burial of ashes will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington at a later date. Peggy A. Neeley


Peggy A. Neeley, 72, of Canton, passed away on September 16, 2023 at her residence. She was born on June 12, 1951 in Springfield to Charles L. and Mildred P. (Richards) Neeley. They preceded her in death along with one brother Charles W. Neeley and two sisters; Linda Burger and Charlene Crouse. Surviving is her son Jeffrey (Ana) Stokes of Suwanee, GA, two grandchildren; Emilie and Aidan Stokes, sister Jeanne (Lynn) Overcash of Fairview, brother-in-law Joe Burger of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.

Peggy retired from the Illinois River Correctional Center in Canton and was of the Christian faith. She loved her lord.

Irma I. Salisbury

Irma I. Salisbury, 102, of Canton, died Saturday, September 16, 2023 at The Loft.


Irma was born March 18, 1921 in Summon, the daughter of Hugh and Sara (Thomas) Foutch, the youngest of ten children. She married Lyle D Salisbury March 18, 1938 in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death November 23, 1991. She was also preceded in death by daughters Marilyn Howarter and Ruth Ellis and grandson Clay Wise.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Poloney of Canton, seven grandchildren Teresa (Richard) Fleming of Mattoon, Patty (Bobby) Cupp of Canon City, CO, Connie (Thomas) Rossignol of Aurora, CO, Martha Howarter of Canton, Karla (Scott) Shaw of Lake Villa, Timothy (Jaclyn) Ellis of Wentzville, MO and Kimberly (Scott) Turk of Washington; eight great-grandchildren Rebecca Luken of Canon City, CO, Nicolas (Rita Marinucci) Wheeler of Brooksville, FL, Joshua (Erica) Fleming of Atwood, Jacob Shaw of Kenosha, WI, Darby (Andrew) Mittan of McHenry, Tyler and Dane Ellis of Wentzville, MO and Dashiell Turk of Washington; five great-great-grandchildren Austin (Rachel) Lambert, Abigail Luken, Amelia and Rowen Fleming and Delaney Mittan.

Irma was primarily a homemaker and seamstress. She also worked at Newberry’s and Edwards Clothing stores in Canton, IL and as a cafeteria cook at Canton High School before retiring. Irma and Lyle were avid campers who travelled throughout the area and country with the Canton Campers/Good Sams Campers. They previously resided in Minnesota in the summer and Texas in the winter. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and a “good” baseball game especially involving the Chicago Cubs. Irma enjoyed BINGO as well as any and all card games. She was an avid journalist of her life writing entries nearly every day. Irma was full of knowledge with a quick wit and a great sense of humor.

Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Kevin Kessler will be officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or Traditions Health Hospice in Peoria, IL.

Richard A. Riccioni

Richard A. Riccioni, 80, of Farmington, passed away at 12:25 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. He was born on January 14, 1943 in Canton, IL, to Gene Riccioni and Helen (Succio) Kimbrell. He married Susan Wilson on August 15, 1964 in Farmington, IL. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2022.


He is also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Riccioni.


He is survived by two children, Gina (Scott) Voice and Rick (Ann) Riccioni both of Farmington; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Joel) Hill, Spencer Henderson, Jordan (Molly) Painter, Hunter (Andrew) Henderson, Erica Riccioni; and two great-grandchildren, Beau and Josie Hill.


Richard worked and retired from Caterpillar, Inc for over 30 years. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and a lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan. He was also a member of multiple gun clubs.

Vaughn W. Rainey

Vaughn W. Rainey, 64, of Bartonville, passed away at 2:32 AM on Friday, September 15, 2023 at OSF in Peoria, IL. He was born on March 6, 1959 in Peoria, IL to Cannon and Mildred (Sikes) Rainey.


He is survived by his mother, three daughters, Shannon, Kelsey, and Hannah Rainey; seven grandchildren, Brayden, Savannah, Keegan, Karlie, Kolby, Mia, and Zaiden; one sister, Deborah (Gayelynn) Rainey; and beloved dog, Elijah.


He is preceded in death by his father.


Vaughn owned and operated Bartonville Billiards in Bartonville, IL and Cheers & Beers in Peoria, IL. He also worked for Keystone Steel & Wire for 15 years. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and pool. He also loved being with his dog, Elijah.


Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Endsley-Sedgwick funeral home in Bartonville, IL. René Schulz

Shelly René Schulz of Elmwood passed away at 5:10 p.m., on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at OSF Saint Francis Hospital in Peoria. She was born September 15, 1950, in Brookfield, Missouri, to Chester and Roma (Eads) Payne.

She married Terry Schulz on September 21, 1968, at Howett Street Church in Peoria. He survives.

She is also survived by two children, Heidi (Larry) Ennis of Elmwood and Heath (Nancy) Schulz of Elmwood; former foreign exchange student, Raoul Van Poelgeest of Grijpskerk, Holland; three grandchildren, Trenton, Lauren, and Charlotte; one sister, Lisa Payne Crujido; and four brothers, Scott (Alice) Payne, Jason (Penny) Payne, Shawn (Stacie) Payne, and Christian (Jan) Payne.

She is preceded in death by her parents;

René worked in banking and retired from Farmers State Bank in Elmwood. She was also a member of the Elmwood United Methodist Church and very involved with the United Women of Faith. She loved traveling and spending her winters in Bandera, Texas, where she was the social director at Bandera Pioneer RV Resort. René was also a loving mother, devoted volunteer, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Elmwood United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the church. Cremation will then be accorded, and a private burial of her ashes will be held at Elmwood Township Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elmwood United Methodist Church, B.Y.E. Ambulance, and the Claude Keefer Industrial Arts Building.

Cathy Sue “Kate” Leezer, 64, of Canton passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the Graham Emergency room in Canton.

She was born on March 8, 1959 in Beardstown to Virgil and Viola (Melvin) Leezer Sr.

Surviving are her children, John (Kes) Yocum Jr of Killeen, TX, Elizabeth (Lance) Dinardo of Auburn, IL, brother, Virgil A. Leezer of Clarksville, TX, sisters, Wanda Palmer of Lewistown, Diane (Rich McCoy) of Lewistown, Debbie Hunt of Boonville, MO, grandchildren, Sicily and Lucca Dinardo, nieces and nephews, Chad, Eric, Alex, Jason, Joe, Jessica, Jayna, Jenny, Jeremy, Myron, William, Lukus, Jake and Adam, aunts, uncles, great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Preceding her in death is her parents, Virgil Leezer Sr and Viola Keene, step mother, Susie Leezer, step father, Bob Keene, longtime companion, Dennis Flaugher Sr, brothers Virgil Leezer Jr, John Leezer and one nephew Virgil Leezer III.

Kate enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching tv, reading, crossword puzzles, NASCAR, collecting antiques and country music.

In her earlier years she was a CNA at Renaissance Care Center and then working at Kmart and Citgo.

Cremation rites will be accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the American Grille in Canton from 12 – 3 pm.

A private burial of her ashes will be held at Rigdon Cemetery.
