Lewistown – Denny A. Gilson, 74, of Lewistown, passed away at 4:36 PM on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 following heart surgery at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on April 19, 1945 in Canton, IL to Denver and Irene (Cross) Gilson. He married Jane (England) Anderson on December 6, 2019 in Petersburg, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tammy Cumpston of Canyon Lake, Texas and Misty (Jim) Martin of Farmington, IL; four grandchildren, Kayla Malmgren, Kristian Cumpston, Ben Martin, and Mason Martin; three great-grandson’s; one step-granddaughter; and one half-sister, Sharilyn Pilgrim of Monmouth, IL.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, one son, John Gilson, and one step-son, Jay Anderson.
Denny retired from Keystone Steel and Wire on January 1, 2001 and after retirement he worked 18 years at Spoon River Blacktop. He enjoyed seeing all of his classmates from the class of 1963 from LCHS. Denny loved his friends, which were many, and he loved his farm, walnut trees, and sitting in his bottom ground watching deer.
Celebration of life will be held from 2-4 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Lewistown VFW Post 5001. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL.
