Canton
– Claude H. Wheatley, 89, of Canton formerly of Pekin, passed away on Tuesday,
August 25, 2015 at the Sunset Manor in Canton.
He
was born on May 5, 1926 in Missouri.
He
married Betty Cantrell on December 17, 1946 in West Frankfort, IL. She survives.
Also
surviving are his children Gary Wheatley of Topeka, Nancy Wheatley of Pekin,
grandchildren, Joshua (Terrence) Stokes-Wheatley, Karl (Jackie) Wheatley, Shena
(Jerimiah Bolen) Meskimen and great grandchildren, Kylie, Jaiton, Jaxton, and
Kora.
Claude
worked for the railroad in southern Illinois for 11 years and later worked for
Caterpillar for 33 years retiring in 1986.
He served in the US Navy during WWII and later as a special deputy for
the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a past member of the Eagles Club and
the American Legion in Bloomington.
A
visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015, from 4-6, at the Oaks-Hines
Funeral Home in Canton. There will be no
funeral service. Cremation rites have
been accorded
Oaks-Hines
Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

may be made to the donor’s choice.
