Verla Maxine Haney Hays, passed away on May 19, 2020 at Heartland Health Care at the age of 88. She was born on July 21, 1931 in Marietta, IL to Floyd and Leta (Little) Brown. Both deceased.
She grew up in Walnut Grove and moved to Macomb after marrying Melvin “Bud” Haney (Deceased) in which they had 2 daughters, Beverly (Deceased) and Norma. They later moved to Adair, IL where they opened Haney’s Grocery Store.
She later married Bobby Jo Hays and they adopted Beverly’s 2 children, Lia Hays (and Kwan) Kim of California and Elijah Hays of Macomb.
Her grandchildren include Chris (and Shanda) Mainland, Remei Hays, Ean Hays, Nathaniel Kim and Abigail Kim. Great-Grandchildren include Caden Mainland and Brooklyn Mainland.
Her surviving sister is Viva June Zuspann of Georgia and nephews, Bob, Jay and Jim, all of Georgia. Preceding her in death is her brother-in-law, Norman Zuspann and her infant brother.
She worked at Haney’s Grocery Adair, McDonough District Hospital, Bushnell Vet Clinic, homemaker and wife.
She survived so many illnesses but couldn’t survive COVID-19. We love you mom, grandma and will be missed so very much.
Private graveside services were held at the Baughman Cemetery in Smithfield, Illinois.
