Barb was born in Gays, Illinois on December 5, 1934 to Homer and Dorothy (Wood) Herron and passed away on December 10, 2025 having just celebrated her 91st birthday a few days prior with dinner with her family and visits from friends like family. She was married to Robert (Bob) Dollar at Bethel Memorial Church on July 4, 1952. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1998.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Helen Herrin Bradford and Nancy Mattson. One sister survives, Carol Herrin of Morton, IL.
Surviving are her children, Julia Dollar Steigleder of Birmingham, AL, Keith (Linda) Dollar of Farmington, Gayle Green of Elmwood, IL and Beth (Mike) Kolowski of rural Elmwood, IL; three granddaughters, Kristin (Brad) Miller of Gardendale, AL, Jessica (Chris) Zambie of Greenville, SC and Faith Green of Farmington; four grandsons, Eric (Haley) Kolowski of East Peoria, IL, Bradley (Kayla) Kolowski of Garden City, KS, Brian (Sydney) Steigleder of Alpharetta, GA and Brad (Kelly) Dix of Murphysboro, TN. Barb was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way and four nieces and two nephews.
Barb was a 1952 graduate of Pekin Community High School, where she was a Y-teen and served as a high school intern at Caterpillar Tractor Corporate office in Peoria, IL. Barb was subsequently employed there for 27 years taking a break after the first five years to begin her family. She worked in several departments, retiring on May 1, 1994 from her position of Executive Administrative Assistant in the Human Resources Department. She made many friends while working at CAT and learned a lot about farming from her great friends in her carpools. In later years she served as secretary on the Pleasant Grove Cemetery board.
Her retirement allowed time spent with her husband and grandchildren at “Mimi’s house” in Farmington and “Papa’s lake” at Lake of the Ozarks. Bob and Barb moved to Farmington in 1961 from Shady Knolls, East Peoria when Bob was recruited to Midland Coal Mine in Middle Grove, IL.
Her fondest memories included her trips to Missouri to visit all of Bob’s family and especially their nieces and nephews there, boat rides at the Lake of the Ozarks, her trips to Europe, England and Hawaii and as a child when she moved to Creve Coeur during grade school and found some of her lifelong best friends. She loved the summers when her grandchildren could visit and Prospect Street became quite the hang out again. She especially enjoyed watching her grandsons play baseball. She was a Cardinal Fan and spent many days and nights watching and listening to the games. She had fond memories of her parents taking her to watch Sunday morning league baseball and the Pekin Lettes. Her most recent favorite thing to do was to visit Thrift Stores and Consignment shops looking at things from the past displayed there.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, where a visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. Gary Dollar will officiate. Burial will follow the services, and take place in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in rural Trivoli.
