Glenn A. Werry

Glenn A. Werry, 86, of Farmington passed away at 2:36 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  Funeral services are pending at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.

Dorothy Newlin

Dorothy Newlin, 95, of Peoria, passed away at 9:30 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 1016 at her residence.  Arrangements are with Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL.

Phyllis Kovachevich


Canton – Phyllis M. Kovachevich, 74, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at her residence.
She was born on June 29, 1942 in Canton to John and Frances (Ferro) Buyan. They preceded her in death.
She married Leonard “Ching” Kovachevich on June 20, 1964 in Canton.  He preceded her in death on December 9, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Lori (Kirk) Prothman of O’Fallon, MO,  Lisa (Parrish) Brown of Goodfield, sisters, Shirley (Tom) Skinner of Canton, Barbara (Gene) Craig of Houston TX, three grandchildren, Kasey Prothman, Lauren Brown, Megan Brown, and several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis graduated from Lewistown High School in 1960.  She worked at the Parlin Ingersoll Library and later for the Canton Union School District as an Elementary Secretary retiring in 2002 after 24 years of service.
She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, volunteered for the St. Mary’s Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels.
She was awarded with the YWCA Women of Achievement Honoree in 2002.
Most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by all.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2016, from 5-7pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a prayer service at 7pm.  A funeral Mass held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St David at 10 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2016.
Burial will be at the St Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Food Pantry or St. Mary’s Church.

Gregory D. Hall


Cuba- Gregory D. Hall, 61, of Cuba passed away Sunday December 25, 2016 at 8:05 AM at his home.

He was born May 19, 1955 at Canton the son of Dean and Marilyn (Nelson) Hall. He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Myers) Hall, of Cuba. Also surviving are his parents of Cuba, four children, Eric Hall of Canton, Alyssa (Brad) Anderson of Cuba, Kelli (Jimmy Thomas) Wefenstette of Chicago, and Sara (Nate Nayden) Wefenstette of Canton, two sisters, Brenda (Merle) Ford of Lewistown, and Larrilyn Hall of Cuba, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Bradley Wefenstette, and one sister, Linnea Hall Cramblet.

Greg graduated from Cuba High School in 1973. He worked at Caterpillar for 43 years and was known for his quick wit, colorful hats, and easy conversation. He was a proud member of UAW Local 974 and Cuba Lodge 534. Greg was a stranger to no one, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and could always be found at the center of family and friends.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Wednesday December 28th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Following the visitation concluding prayers will be offered by Pastor Monroe Bailey. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Janet K. Heller


CANTON- Janet K. Heller, 77, of Canton, passed away at 1:24 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria. She was born on January 6, 1939 in Canton, the daughter of Frank Earl and Lorraine (Johnson) Richardson. She married Jerry Heller on December 30, 1967 in Canton. He survives.
Also surviving is her brother, Larry Richardson of Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a professional photographer for many years, and was a member of the First Christian Church in Canton. She was nicknamed the “Den-Mother” by her Class of 1957.
Funeral Services will be at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1995 North Main Street, Canton, where visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Mark A. Watkins


Canton – Mark Allen Watkins, 55, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on March 29, 1961 in Canton to Russell and Martha (Capps) Watkins.
He married Kim (Derry) Petefish on June 17, 2003 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  She survives.
Also surviving is his mother of Canton, step- children Carson (Austin) Markland of Canton, Konnor Petefish at home, brothers, Mike (Bonnie) Watkins of Wee-Ma-Tuk, Gary Watkins of Wee-Ma-Tuk, sister, Janet Windom of Canton, half-sister, Traina Lindsey of Mt. Pleasant, IA, niece, Jennifer (Lee) Fox of Nashville, TN, nephew Chris Windom of St. Louis, MO., great nephew, August Fox and  nephew, Tony Watkins of Mt. Pleasant IA.
He was preceded in death by his father and step son Ryan Petefish.
Mark was the Showroom Manager at Hagerty Brothers in Peoria.  He was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed bow hunting, bow fishing, working outside and cutting brush.  He was awarded for his skills as an Archer.  He also loved participating in his nephew’s racing career.  After a hard days work Mark enjoyed lying on the couch with his wife watching movies and playing with his dog.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at 11 am, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery.

Patricia Tindall

Canton – Patricia A. Tindall, 72, of Canton passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, December 26, 2016, at Sunset Manor in Canton.
She was born February 9, 1944, in Canton to John and Silvia (Putrich) Tomlianovich.  She married Byron Tindall on January 25, 1964, in Canton.  He survives.
Also surviving are two children, Kris (Greg) Nutt of Bloomington and Byron John “B.J.” of Canton; one brother, James (Cindy) Tomlianovich of Desoto; two grandchildren, Jared Nutt and Samantha Tindall; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Patricia worked as a sales clerk.  She enjoyed bowling and playing cards and was a huge Chicago Cubs fan.
Cremation rites have been accorded.  Burial of ashes will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton at a later date.  Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmie D. Essex


Jimmie D. Essex, 80, of Canton, passed away at 3:50 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on January 12, 1936 in Canton, the son of Clarys and Rhoda (Bartlett) Essex. He married Norma Rock on February 9, 1957 in Ellisville. She survives.
Also surviving are his two children, Richard Essex of Cuba; Linda (Barry) Sneath of Dunlap, one sister, Virginia Bales of Florida; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Charlie) Barrick of Cuba, Matt (Becky) Essex of Bourbannais, Amanda (Tyler) Rector of Table Grove, Aubrey Williams and Allison Williams both of Dunlap, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He worked for International Harvester for 20 years, and later worked for CIC and United Technology, at the Mitsubishi plant ; he was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge, and was in the National Guard.

Harold D. Vaughn


Harold D. Vaughn, 94, of Canton, formerly of Astoria, passed away at 7:45 pm on Monday, December 26, 2016 at his home. He was born on November 19, 1922 in Ipava, the son of Guy and Leona (Smith) Vaughn. Harold married Betty Opper on January 1, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him on death on January 2, 2015.

Also preceding him in death was his daughter, Sandra Sue Vaughn.

Survivors include his son, Gene (and Judy) Vaughn of Washington, 2 grandchildren, Suzie (and Kevin) Root and Mike (and Rebecca) Vaughn, 5 great-grandchildren, Karsen, Rhys, and Owen Root and Carly and Ella Vaughn and his sister, Dorothy Carver of Garland, TX.

Harold started as a barber in 1946, working first for his dad. He barbered until the age of 90.

Harold was a corporal in U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines.

He was a member of the Astoria American Legion, Vermont Masonic Lodge and the Astoria United Methodist Church. He also served on the Astoria School Board. Harold liked to play golf and fish. He enjoyed camping which included going on a camping trip to Minnesota for 2 weeks every summer. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and was a diehard Cubs fan.

Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Vince Opper will be officiating and the Vermont Masonic Lodge will conduct Masonic services. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria, with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Astoria United Methodist Church or the South Fulton Athletic Boosters.

Richard A. Green


Canton – Richard A. Green, 51, of Canton, passed away at 6:40 PM on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at his residence. He was born on October 27, 1965 in Canton to Arnold Green and Joyce (Estes) Wilcoxen.
Surviving are his parents, step-mother, Doreen; brother, Perri (Shellie) Green of Canton; sister, Penni Walker of MO; three nephews, Devin Green, Jeramy Walker, and Nathan Walker-Adams; and two nieces, Victoria Green and Brittany Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Hoyt Wilcoxen.
Richard worked as a meat cutter and Kroger’s.

Edwin Diefendorf


Farmington – Edwin A. Diefendorf, 95, of Farmington, passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at Farmington Country Manor.
He was born March 1, 1921, in Galesburg, IL to Frank and Edith (Jones) Diefendorf. Edwin served in WWII in the United States Marine Corps April 30, 1942 to November 4, 1945 as a technical Sargent. While stationed at Cherry Point, NC he met Letteria “Lee” Crupi and they wed November 5, 1945.  She preceded him in death on June 26, 2016.
He is survived by his five children, Joanne (Joe) Bellitto of Girard, OH, Ed Diefendorf Jr. of Littleton, CO, David (Dianna) Diefendorf of Hanna City, Dan (Lissa) Diefendorf of Peoria, and Mary (Corey) Starcevich of Bushnell; five grandchildren, Sasha, Amy, Kiel, Jessica, and Wesley; and four great-grandchildren.
Edwin worked as a maintenance engineer for the State of Illinois at the Hanna City Work Camp.  He worked side-by-side with his loving wife of 70 years building their house, their furniture, tending to their gardens, traveling, fishing, trap shooting and running several side businesses including a green house, saw sharpening business, and other innovative projects.  He was a member of the Farmington American Legion and St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m.  Military honors will be held at the funeral home immediately following services.  Cremation rites will be accorded. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Activities Department at Farmington Country Manor.

Robert L. Derrickson


Canton – Robert L. Derrickson, 84, of Canton, passed away at 2:39 pm Thursday, December 21, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center in Canton.  He was born on July 26, 1932 in Farmington to Lester K. and Leta M. (Hammond) Derrickson.  Robert married Jean B. Linck on March 8, 1952 in Canton.  She survives along with two children; Taron L. (Sam) Ashley of Arkansas and Dion (Michael Heil) Derrickson of Petersburg, IL, sister Loretta Harper of Hopedale, three grandchildren; Mandy, Nikki and Katie, and six great-grandchildren; Abby, Colton, Amelia, Jace, Hunter and Jaxson.  Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Gene and sister Kay McKinney.
Robert retired from Caterpillar, where he was a cost analyst.  He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion #1234 in Creve Coeur.  Robert was also a member of Moose Lodge #916 of Pekin and #100 of Canton, Canton Country Club, Canton Baseball Hall of Fame, and the former Chief of Police at Mackinaw.

Alexa M. Dailey


Alexa M. Dailey, 21, of Ipava, passed away at 10:54 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Mason District Hospital Emergency Room in Havana. She was born on November 8, 1995 in Peoria, the daughter of Michael and Sue (Ulmer) Dailey.

Survivors include her parents, Mike and Sue Dailey of Ipava, 2 sister, Heather (and Scott) Miller of Havana and Angel Dailey of Ipava, 2 brothers, Tyler (and Betty Morgan) Keime of Macomb and Devon Dailey of Elmwood, maternal grandmother, Martha Ulmer of Macomb and her paternal grandmother, Marie (and John) Gage of Macomb.

She is preceded by her maternal grandfather, Duane Ulmer and paternal grandfather, Raymond Dailey.

Alexa was Valedictorian of the 2014 graduating class of V.I.T. High School. She graduated with honors from Spoon River College in 2016. Alexa was active in plays at both V.I.T. and SRC. She was on the editorial staff of the Kaleidoscope student newspaper at SRC. She was an aspiring writer and teacher, and used the pen name Ally Marie on her blog. She was also and avid American Girl Doll collector. Her goal was to become a foster parent. In her memory, the family would appreciate the donation of children books for ages 5 and under to be given to the The Baby Fold. Donations can be brought to the funeral home.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Doug Krukewitt will be Officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:30 to noon on Friday, December 23, 2016. Interment will be in the Harris Cemetery in Table Grove. John F. Stufflebeam Sr.


Lewistown – John F. Stufflebeam Sr, 79, of Lewistown, IL.  His soul passed on to heaven December 18, 2016 at 10:45 am leaving behind his much used body behind at home.  His body is at rest and his soul is in the presence of Jesus.
John was born November 18, 1937 at the home of his parents in Canton, IL.  Son of Seldon S. and Helen M. (Barnhart) Stufflebeam.  John married his high school classmate, Leta R. Rumler on November 18, 1956 in the Free Methodist Church in Canton.  She survives.
Survivors include one son, John F. Stufflebeam Jr. of Lewistown, three daughters; Sally (Terry) Anderson of Waseca, MN, Linda (Rick) Moore, and Karen (Wesley) Wall both of Romeoville, IL, four grandchildren; Brittney Wall, Nick Moore, Alex Moore, and Joshua Moore.
John’s parents preceded him in death along with two sisters; Garnet Bonetto, and Florence Gallien and a brother, Clyde Stufflebeam.  Surviving siblings are Cinda (Jamie) Fitch and Harry Stufflebeam both of Canton.
John graduated from Canton high school in 1956 and after working at the A & P Super Market for a short time he started his career with the International Harvester Company, Canton plant in their Engineering department October 21, 1957.  He then transferred to the new IHC Design and Engineering Center in Hinsdale, IL. in March 1959.  He worked there the rest of his career and retired in 1997 with 40 years’ service.  He worked on the designing and engineering of new Farm equipment and machines and has his name on 30 patents.
John and his wife Leta, lived and raised their family during the 40 years they lived in Romeoville, IL. near Chicago.  They were members of the Bible Baptist Church there, held the position of deacon, Christian school board member, Awana boys and girls clubs Commander Sunday school department Superintendent, and teacher.  After a few years of retirement there, they relocated to the peaceful rural area near Lewistown and Canton their home town.  He is a member of Calvary Baptist in Canton and an avid Cubs fan and was able to witness the Cubs win the World Series.  John’s hobby besides enjoying his grandchildren, family and country “estate”, which he named God’s little Acre, is genealogy and family historian.  He wrote a book on the Stufflebeam family lineage with two more complete updated books, plus a large family tree.
Per John’s request, he asked that his family and friends omit memorials, gift funds and flowers.  His prayer was that instead of these, they would take time out in their busy lives and read the 4th book of the Bible, New Testament, St. John and draw closer to the Lord and get saved or renew the joy of their salvation and all attend the church of their choice every Sunday.

Kenny A. Breese


CANTON- Kenny A. Breese, 55, of Canton, passed away at 6:09 PM on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Graham Hospital. He was born on July 17, 1961 in Canton, a son of Ted and Mara Lee Jarnagin Breese.
Surviving are three sisters, Carolyn Shepherd of Galesburg; Dixie Davis of Canton; Penny Breese of Canton (whom he made his home with the past 24 years); one brother, David Breese of Canton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Breese.
Kenny worked at FCRC for 30 years, and was avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, he loved to sing to Elvis music, and never seen him without a straw in his hand.

Max E. Danner


Max E. Danner, age 88 of Astoria, IL passed away at 2:40 am on Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. He was born on August 18, 1928 in Summum, IL, the son of Curtis and Doris (Derry) Danner. On October 29, 1949, Max married Betty J. Schuman in Astoria. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2015.

Max was also preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia Weaver of Liverpool, IL and his caretakers, Everett and Susan Easley of Astoria.

Max worked for AmerenIllinois for 35 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed shooting events. He attended Master Shoots in Barry, IL.

Max and Betty loved boating.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the US Marines from 1952 to 1954 with a rank of Corporal.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be held at a later date.

Ruby J. Spoede

Canton – Ruby J. Spoede, 77 of Canton passed away at 12:02 pm Friday, December 16, 2016 at Graham Hospital in Canton.  She was born on February 28, 1939 in Princeton, IL. to Joseph and Pauline Parrott.  Ruby married Richard Spoede of Havana in Canton.  He preceded her in death along with her parents, two brothers; David and Melvin, and sister Beverly.  Surviving is her brother James Parrott of Princeton and three sisters; Patsy Veith of Belvidere, Rose Parrott of Rockford and Betty Parrott of Illinois.
Ruby worked at the Canton Overall Factory for many years and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Canton.
Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 22 at Temple Baptist Church, where visitation will be 1 hour prior to services.  The Rev. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet (Tim) Crouse of Cuba, IL and Kay (David) Guth of Roanoke, IL; four grandchildren, Kyle Guth of Roanoke, IL, Elizabeth Guth of Peoria, IL, and Zachary and Nicholas Crouse of Cuba, IL; sister, Mary Libby of Galva, IL; sister in law, Carol Curtis of S.C; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her adopted parents, brother, Bill Curtis, and brother in law, Don Libby.

Gladys worked as a secretary at Ingersoll Middle School in Canton for 26 years, where she retired in 2001. She graduated from Galva High School in 1957 and then moved on to Brown’s Business College in Peoria. Gladys is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, a past member of Salvation Army Advisory Board, and was a volunteer with Love, INC. She loved cats and dogs, especially Beagles.

Services will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, where a visitation will be from 10-11 AM. Pastor Micah Garnett will officiate. Entombment will follow the services at White Chapel Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Melba Maxie Bain McCarthy

 
Canton – Melba Maxine McCarthy, 87 of Canton passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  She was born on August 24, 1929 in Banner, IL. to James William and Della Frances (Brown) Bain.  Melba married Maurice James McCarthy on July 20, 1959 in Arlington, Virginia.  He preceded her in death on March 14, 1992.  Also preceding her in death were her parents, brother Bernard Francis Bain and sister Alta Pauline Nayden.  Surviving is two children; Maureen Melba McCarthy of Canton and William “Bill” James McCarthy of Columbia, Maryland.
Melba worked for 35 years for the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, Maryland, retiring in May 1986. She was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the Phoenix Society.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a burial of ashes at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton on December 28th, 2016.  Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials can be made to the National Ataxia Foundation.

Roy E. "Bud" Orr


Canton – Roy Edward “Bud” Orr, 95, of Canton passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born August 9, 1921, in Oberlin, KS to Arthur and Florence (Spires) Orr.  He married Margaret C. Opel on May 17, 1947, in Jefferson City, MO.  She preceded him in death on January 5, 2000.
He is survived by five children, Sharon Orr of Peoria Heights, Rodney (Carol) Orr of Maryville, Richard (Jan) Orr of LaRussell, MO, William Orr of Canton, and James (Thelma) Orr of Laredo, TX; one sister, Evelyn Meitl of Oberlin, KS; one son-in-law, Harold Walker of Canton; sixteen grandchildren, Roger (Nancy), Rhonda (Gary), Craig, Catherine, Erica (Jack), Amy (Adam), Emily, Joey (April), Travis, Staci (Joshua), Olivia, Jacquelyn, Angie (Jeff), Brian (Renee), Ron, and James; and thirty-three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Linda Walker and Robert Orr; one brother, Lloyd Orr; one sister, Erlene Schroer; and one grandson, Rick Orr.
Roy was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II.  He worked as a welder for International Harvester Inc. retiring after 33 years.  In his retirement, he enjoyed raising cattle and chickens on his farm and delivering eggs throughout town.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking and was a proud and generous supporter of the Canton Community Concert Series.  He was a member of the Canton American Legion and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Burial, with military honors, will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton.

Tobias J. Oatman


Norris – Tobias J. Oatman, 38, of Norris, passed away at 12:05 PM on Monday, December 12, 2016 at his residence. He was born on September 15, 1978 in Canton to Donnie Oatman and Rhonda Atchley.
Surviving are his parents Donnie of Canton and Rhonda (Barry) Taylor Fairview; Cindy Horton another mother that helped raise him of Germatown Hills; two sisters, Kim Lane of Canton and Aimee (Mike) Carrell of Germantown Hills; two brothers, Damon (Liz Siedt) Taylor of Chicago and Matt French of Prince Edward Island, Canada; maternal grandparents, Dave and Pat Atchley of Norris; five nieces, Morgan Lane, Kennedy Lane, Matissa French, Jenessa French, and Adelynn Carrell; two nephews, Kyle Lane and Tyler Carrell; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Berwyn and Mary Taylor and Larry and Flo Horton; paternal grandparents, John and Betty Oatman.
Tobias worked as a cook at Joe’s Place in Norris for 8 years and also worked for Oatman Brothers Construction for several years. He loved to play golf. Tobias was a loving and caring person who touched many people’s hearts.

Gerald J. McMahon


Fairview – Gerald J. McMahon, 98, of Fairview passed away at 3:18 am Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Graham Hospital Extended Care Unit in Canton.  He was born on April 8, 1918 in London Mills, Illinois to Otis and Burbie (Vice) McMahon.  Gerald married Helen B. Beckman on December 24, 1944 in Lewistown, Indiana.  She preceded him in death on August 14, 2016.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers; Eugene, Robert, Dick, Bernard, Don and Tom and a sister Dorothy McMahon.  Surviving is his brother Harold McMahon of Kewanee, four sister-in-law’s; Juanita McMahon, Madine McMahon, Pat Riggs McMahon and Joyce McMahon, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gerald farmed until he was 85, worked at the elevator in Fairview, Mormon Feed Company, Chicago Motor Company, and Johnson Motor Company and was the Fire Chief in Fairview for 28 years (1983-2011).  He also was a member of Fairview Reformed Church, Shriners International, Morning Star Lodge #734 in Canton, 50 year member of Fairview Eastern Star, representative for Illinois Poland China Association, member of Illinois Angus Association, Past President Lamoine Valley Angus Association, American Angus Association of Illinois, and Illinois Pork Producers Association.
 Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, December 17 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.  The Rev. Mike Huson will officiate.  Memorials can be made to Graham Hospital Extended Care Unit 2nd East.  Burial of ashes will be at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson, IN at a later date.

William W. Grzanich


Lewistown- William W. Grzanich, 64, of Lewistown, passed away at 3:40 PM Friday December 9, 2016 at Graham Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born September 15, 1952 at Canton, the son of William V. and Dorothy E. (Finley) Grzanich. He married Kathy Heffren on November 8, 1975 at Lewistown. She survives with his father, William Grzanich of Lewistown, one son, William W. (Tiffany) Grzanich Jr of Bryant, two daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Miller of Makanda, and Stephanie (Tim) Duncan of Lewistown, seven grandchildren, Drew, Robbie, and Jenna Miller, Kegen and Kenedy Duncan, and Jozie and Billy Grzanich, and one sister, Connie (Robert) Smock of Farmington. He was preceded in death by his mother, and one sister, Bonnie Beth.

Bill was a truck driver, and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was also a member of the Alligators Club, United Mine Workers, and a social member of the Lewistown VFW Post 5001.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial home in Lewistown, with Father Anthony Bernas officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the memorial home. Kenny Young


Canton – Kenneth L. “Kenny” Young, 65, of Canton passed away at 5:08 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016, in Canton.
He was born November 4, 1951, in Summersville, MO to William and Daisy (Foulk) Young, and was raised by his mother and step-father, Dale Haggerty.  He married Lillian M. Murphy on April 12, 1980, in Canton.  She survives.
Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Alma Wilson of Canton; one sister, Diana Carter of TX; three brothers, Ronald (Lisa) Haggerty of Auburn, Jerry (Heather Shirley) Haggerty of Ellisville, and Larry (Shannon) Haggerty of IN; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Dale Haggerty; and one sister, Linda Cook.
Kenny worked as a truck driver, provided security at MSD, and was a crossing guard at Lincoln School.  He enjoyed reading and spending time with his dog, Axle.  Above all, he loved his family and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his great-great niece and nephew, Adalynn and Rylan Kumer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-8 p.m.  Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery in rural Glasford.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Ray Swise

Canton-Ray Swise, 71, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on October 11, 1945 in Cuba to Lloyd and Kathryn (Hughes) Swise. They preceded him in death.
He married Judy Fleming on November 30, 1962 in Lewistown. She survives.
Also surviving is three children, Greg (Reesa) Swise of Canton, Tim (Stephanie) Swise of Canton, Rodney Swise of Canton, two brothers Jim of Maquon, Allen (Janice) Swise of Manito, four sisters, Pauline (Ray) Myers of Canton, Francis (Donald) Barnett of Canton, Diane (Bob) Wells of Canton, Norma Atchley of CA, seven grandchildren, Sarah (John) Porter, Tiffany (Steven) Hilton, Aaron Swise, Tabetha (Mark) Rives, Nick Swise, Drew Swise, Weston and four great grandchildren, Ainsley, Brooklynn, Austen and Raeleen.
Also preceding him in death are four sisters and one brother.
Ray retired from Caterpillar in 1996 and later was the Owner/Operator of Bob & Swise Towing in Canton.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 6-8, at the Oaks-Hines in Canton.  There will be no funeral and cremation rites have been accorded.

Virginia Slack


Canton– Virginia (Ginny) L. Slack, 81, passed away on December 6, 2016, at the Porter Hospice Residence in Centennial, Colorado.  She was born on July 14, 1935, in Canton to Ross and Fern (Saunders) Wilcoxen.  They preceded her in death.  She married Rollin (Gene) Slack on September 10, 1955, in Canton.  He preceded her in death on August 6, 2016.
Surviving are two children, Dan (Mary) Slack of Centennial, CO, and Diane Weir of Denver, CO, five grandchildren, Andrea Slack-Cookson, Kristy Slack, Garrett Weir, Austen Weir, and Sarah Slack, and one sister, Joan (Raymond) Burkhead of Canton.
Preceding her in death were six brothers, Roscoe, Gerald, Gene, Esta, Hoyt, and Ronald Wilcoxen.  Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Janice Wilcoxen, Naomi Green and Ann Tinsley.
In Ginny's earlier years she was President of the Christian Women's Club in Kewanee, Illinois.  Ginny also taught Sunday School and served at Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church of Kewanee.
Ginny worked part-time at J.C. Penney in Kewanee and at Parkland College in Champaign.
Ginny was very sociable.  She enjoyed playing cards and board games and would host bridge parties in her home.  She loved to travel with her husband and they especially enjoyed the mountains of Colorado and the beaches of Florida, always stopping to enjoy live music in Nashville on their travels between those two special places.
Ginny loved life, always had a smile on her face and enjoyed her time to the fullest. She had many friends at their retirement community and brought joy to many of their lives, as well as to her family. She will be truly missed by her family, but Ginny had strong faith and a love of the Lord, and the family rests assured that she has joined her husband in heaven.
Ginny and her husband Gene attended services regularly the past several years at their retirement community.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held one hour prior to services.Burial will be at Providence Chapel Cemetery in rural Farmington.

Curtis A. Foster


Canton- Curtis A. Foster, 77, of Sunset Manor, passed away at 12:35 PM Monday December 5, 2016 at OSF St Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 30, 1939 at Cuba, the son of John and Mary Jane (Bishop) Foster. He married Sandra Thomas Baughman on June 9, 1984 at Smithfield. She survives with one son, John (Christa) Foster of Canton, two daughters, Joanne Foster of Cuba, and Margaret (Dave) Ferris of Canton, three step sons, Scott (Tammy) Baughman, Todd (Sheila) Baughman, and Curtis (Debbie) Baughman, all of Smithfield, and one step daughter, Cindy Hardes of Roseville, 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary (Philip) Spratt of Peotone. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two great grandchildren.

Curtis retired from Navistar in 2001, and had also worked as a meat cutter and maintenance man for the former Day & Palin IGA stores. He was an Air Force veteran, and was a member of the Hanna City Presbyterian Church, and UAW. He had served as an alderman in Cuba. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and loved to sing hymns and country western.

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Private burial of ashes will be in Baughman Cemetery with military rites accorded by Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533. Diane K. Simons


Canton – Diane K. Simons, 76, of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
She was born on March 27, 1940 in Fulton County to Ralph and Halle (Westerfield) Williams. They preceded her in death.
She married Carl Simons on November 6, 2002.  He survives.
Also surviving is her daughter Lisa Roberson of Farmington, one sister Dixie (Bill) Hebb of Canton, two grandchildren Clinton Lovel, Kayla Lovel and two great grandchildren, Wyatt Lovel and Bailey Pavley.
She was also preceded in death by one son Craig Roberson and one sister Dawn Lingenfelter.
Diane retired from Coast to Coast in Farmington and attended the Canton Assembly of God Church.
She was a past Orion Township Supervisor.  She was named a 4-H Hall of Fame inductee for 2012.  She was a 4-H leader with the Junior Master Gardeners 4-H Club, and has been a 4-H leader in Fulton County for over 43 years.  She also served as the 4-H Horse Show Superintendent for many years and was an avid horse lover.
Most of all Diane was known for her kind smile and kind word.
A funeral Service will be held on Friday December 9, 2016 at 10 am, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation on Thursday, from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Canton – Mary D. Strode, 73, of Canton, passed away at 4:31 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Graham Hospital. She was born on June 28, 1943 in Hot Springs, AR to James and Estell (Cozart) Jackson formerly of Hot Springs, AR.
Surviving are three children, Elizabeth Ann Strode of Bushnell, Roger (Donna) Strode of Canton, and Dee Anna (Jeff Berfield) Wolfe-Strode of Canton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Millsap and Paul Millsap; and three sisters, Joyce Davis, Sue McGuire, and Carolyn Neff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; previous husband, David Allen Strode; two brothers, Marvin Rowland, and Billy Ralph Rowland; and one sister, Martha Jackson.
Mary worked as a CNA at Renaissance Care Center and was a caregiver for the mentally disabled for many years. She was an avid pitch and bingo player.

William "Bill" Yocum


Canton – William “Bill” G. Yocum, 87, of Canton passed away at his home at 10:10 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016.
He was born October 5, 1929, in Canton to Threll and Dorthea (VanMiddlesworth) Yocum.  He married Pat A. Horvath on July 1, 1950, in Canton.  She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Teresa Pollitt and Tom (Cindy) Yocum, both of Canton; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Annie) Pollitt, Joshua (Susan) Pollitt, Trina (Josh) Jochums, and Casie (Scott) Phegley; and eight great-grandchildren, Trevor, Blayden, Tanner and Tess Pollitt, Caleb, Ethan and Elena Jochums, and Logan Phegley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Yocum.
Bill worked for Freeman United Coal Mine Company in Industry, retiring in 1994.  He also worked for J&J Ready Mix in Mapleton.  He enjoyed spending time tinkering in his workshop and cheering on the Chicago Cubs.  He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA).
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Canton.

Boden Douglas Florey

Canton – Boden Douglas Florey, infant son of Kyle Florey and Kalee Dallefeld was stillborn on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Graham Hospital surrounded by his family.

Surviving are his parents; paternal grandparents, Michael and Tina Kruzan of Canton and Cory (Becky) Johnson of Canton; maternal grandparents, Mike and Michelle Walker of Canton, Wayne (Sue) Dallefeld of Shorewood, IL; paternal great-grandma, Jean Florey of Canton; maternal great-grandparents, Judy Whitman of Lewistown, Pamela Myers of Canton and Richard (Carol) Walker of Havana; and several aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by three great-grandpa’s, Chuck Florey, Allan Myers, and Bill Whitman.

Tom Trobaugh


St. David – Thomas H. “Tom” Trobaugh, 61, of St David, formerly of Canton, passed away on November 30, 2016 at 10:55 am, at the Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born on May 19, 1955 in Canton, to William “Dale” and Helen Stokes Trobaugh.  They preceded him in death.
He married his soulmate, Connie Romine on September 6, 1996 in Lewistown.  She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Tim Trobaugh of Canton, Michael Tovrea of Phoenix, AZ, Corrina (Jay) Freiheit of Havana, Sherry Whiteman of Canton, Adele Tovrea of St David, sister, Dalelynn (Don) Holley of Peoria, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his beloved dog Sassy.
Also preceding him in death is one grandson Elijah Stufflebeam.
He worked at Keystone Steel and Wire for over 40 years.
Tom enjoyed the outdoors, especially, hunting, fishing, camping and simply enjoying his time away from work.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
His family will receive friends at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton from 1-3, on Saturday, December 10, 2016.

Canton- Lena Mae Franklin, 91, of Canton, passed away Wednesday November 30, 2016 at her home.

She was born March 30, 1925 at Canton, the daughter of George and Mable (Gray) Mason. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Wilcoxen McDonald of Canton, and Sandra “Cookie” Ward of Lewistown, three grandsons, Mike McDonald, Shane Wilcoxen, and Billy Wilcoxen, four granddaughters, Nancy McDonald Massey, Cheryl Cochran, Michelle Wilcoxen, and Connie Fox, twelve great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren, one sister, Georgia Stambaugh of Cuba, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jerry Wilcoxen, one grandson, Jeff McDonald, one sister, Charlotte, and three brothers, Don, Blake, and Clyde Mason.

Lena Mae was a homemaker and loved animals and gardening.

Canton – Freeman Long, 80, of Canton passed away at 1:55 pm Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.  He was born on July 11, 1936 in Canton to William “Doc” and Hazel (Lowry) Long.  Freeman married Wilma Shawgo on September 20, 1953 in Canton.  She survives along with one daughter Sharon (Roger) Harkless of Canton, sister Bonnie (Harold) Jump of Canton, brother Tony Long of Canton, granddaughter Tina (Rick Sheets Jr.) Myers of Canton, two great-grandchildren; Cody Meyer and Ashlye Myers both of Canton, two great-great-grandchildren; Camden Meyer and Huntlye Myers both of Canton, and several nieces and nephews.  Freeman was preceded in death by his parents and one brother William Long Jr.
Freeman owned and operated Long’s Auto body in Canton.  He attended Canton Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Canton Bowling Association.  Freeman loved roller skating, being on the Starcevich farm cutting wood, sitting on the front porch and being with his grandkids.
Services will be 11 am Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton where visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, December 7.  The Rev. Kevin Kessler will officiate.  Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.  Memorials can be made Canton Church of the Brethren.

Leland R. Wake


Peoria-Leland R. Wake, 92, of Peoria, formerly of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on May 5, 1924, in Farmington to Richard and Viola Abel Wake.  They preceded him in death.
He married Phyllis Putman on July 2, 1961 in Peoria.  She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Debra (Stephen Dellinger of West Peoria, Denise (the late David) Dellinger of Peoria, grandchildren, Bryan and Joab Dellinger and sisters, Mary Page, Judy Thurman and Marge Plumer.
Four brothers, Don, Arnold, Bill and David also preceded him in death.
Leland served in the US Navy during WWII.  He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. after 38 years of service.  He attended First Baptist Church in Peoria.
A funeral will be held on Saturday 3, 2016, at 11 am at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at the Mt Zion Cemetery in rural Fiatt.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
