Helen Neuman

Helen Neuman of Lewistown passed away on August 28, 2025. She was born on the last day of 1931 to Bruce and Violet (Lingenfelter) Grove. She attended elementary school in Dumfermline and high school in Canton, where she graduated in 1949. Helen received the Arion Award for her choral accomplishments and continued to sing throughout her long life, performing with her son just two years ago in Porter Park. For many years, she sang at the Bryant Methodist Church and the Lewistown United Methodist Church, her pretty soprano voice adding joy to any choir or service.

She married Kenneth Neuman of Lewistown on April 2, 1950, at Dumfermline. Her uncle Harvey (Victoria) Lingenfelter, Justice of the Peace, performed the ceremony at his home. She is survived by her husband and both children: Linda (Dan McClarren) Ezell of Florida and Kenneth (Rhonda Wilcox) Neuman, Jr., of Dumfermline. Also surviving is sister Kathryn Grove, grandchildren Amanda Neuman and Major Christopher (Cathy) Neuman, U.S. Army, and great-grandchildren Cade and Cole.

Helen remembered fondly her years as a librarian at the Lewistown Middle School, and she was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to read, cook, sing, feed the birds, and grow beautiful flowers in her yard. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Food Pantry at the Lewistown United Methodist Church in her memory. She would have appreciated this kindness and the help it would bring local families.

Helen’s service will be held at the Lewistown United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 6, with visitation starting at 1 p.m. and the service at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Canton. Online condolences may be made at henrylange.com.
